@66Mustang
Another thing my mum used to do on New years Eve just before the bells was open the windows and house door and say that quote.I think it was a well known thing to do.Out with the old in with the new.❤️2 -
@Lou67 I don't know why but I love traditions like that
We have a few in our family that make no sense but we do them anyway
One example I have a piece of Christmas pudding on Christmas, even though I hate it, just to say I have had some
As long as they do no harm I think tradition is a good thing2 -

Aww amazing I love the old traditions.
Im not sure if this is just a Scottish one but years gone by if you were going to first foot someone after the bells it was good luck to have a piece off coal and an alcoholic drink to give the person who lived there. 😊1 -
@66Mustang
Thank you, you have reminded me off happy times when I was younger. ❤️1 -
Talking of tradition, I have house work planned tomorrow as when we were kids, the whole house had to be cleaned, ready for the new year.
Probably something todo with the new years parties at our house too, when the local pub closed, everyone came to our house, where there would be a buffet and music and the party carrying on.
We were kids and it used to wake us up.2 -

Interesting that some traditions happen not only in Scotland, where you know how to celebrate Hogmanay, but there's some similar elsewhere. A dark-haired male first footing is thought to be lucky. I read somewhere because of the Viking invasions (as they were often fair-haired), that that's why it should be a dark haired stranger!2

@chiarieds
Hiya I hope you’re keeping well. Yes that was definitely one of the older traditions here someone tall and dark haired was the best to be your first foot.I was just reading on Glasgow Live this morning about all the old traditions.
