Hi all,
I am a carer for my didabled daughter. I receive carers allowance.
She lives nearby and I am on Universal Credit.
Can I take in a lodger?
Thankyou,
Mrs Lee.

Hi there
Moving in a lodger won't affect carers allowance but may affect your uc as rent may be classed as earnings
Is your property owned or rented ?1 -
Hi Janer,
My home is mortgaged.
I checked and it would seem it's ok with UC but Carers Allowance is means tested. I am thinking the combination of the 2 (only 550 altogether per month) may be an issue if I took in a lodger? Thanks.0 -
Uc is also a means tested benefit0

Thankyou.
So taking a lodger would be seen as having an income?0 -
Sorry I'm not sure what us classed as income but in reality if you put it in perspective taking in a lodger will increase your disposable income
I'm not a benefit expert hopefully others will help
If not have a look at welfare rights website and maybe give them a call1 -
Thankyou.0
