Hi, I'm Emma. My 4yo daughter has CP and wants to be like her non-disabled friends.

hello all
I have two children, my daughter who is 4 and my son who is 3. I had my daughter at 32 weeks because of placenta abruption, from this we found out she has hypoxic brain damage and cerebral palsy which effects both legs and her arms (but mainly her left arm) we are so very lucky that she is so strong and determined but I think that is because of my son. He is amazing with her and they encourage each other all the time.

At the moment we are having a lot of problems with my little girl with the way she sees herself and other children. She has to
wear splints use a Walker and a standing frame but all she wants is to be like her friends and it is just not possible. I have brought her amazing shoes (she picked out) but unfortunately nothing works.

Hi @Motheroftwo and welcome to the community! I'm sorry to hear how your daughter is currently feeling, and i'm sure many parents on the community will be able to relate. I will tag our Cerebral Palsy Specialist Information Officer who will be able to advise1

Hi and welcome yo the community from me too
Hope you find others to connect with0 -
Hello @Motheroftwo and a warm welcome to our community.
Your children sound amazing, and it's heart-warming to read that your son encourages your daughter in different ways and motivates her
I've slightly amended the title of your thread so others can better spot it and reply, plus I've moved it to our Cerebral Palsy category which you might find helpful to browse.
I'm also tagging in @Richard_Scope who is our resident CP information specialist so he can offer more specialised support around helping your daughter with her feelings and self-identity.
Wishing you and your family all the best for the future, take care and please let us know if you ever have any other questions.0 -
Hi Emma @Motheroftwo
It's really good to meet you and thanks for posting. It sounds like your daughter is developing her sense of self and she will notice the differences between herself, her sibling and her peers. When I was growing up it was important for me that the focus was on what I could do and that I was allowed to try and sometimes fail at things.
Here are some good books that you could perhaps read with her:Xander's Cerebral Palsy Superpowers (One Three Nine Inspired): Amazon.co.uk: Yarborough, Lori Leigh, Freeland, Lori, Oslizlo, Roksana: 9781732638150: Books
Very little is impossible. It may need extra planning and forethought but your daughter can be very much like her friends and she has a very loving and supportive family to help her.
I'm really happy to chat further if you would like.0 -
Hi @Cher_Scope I am still getting used to how everything works, so thank you so much for helping and putting me in the right directions. I really appreciate it0

Hi @Richard_Scope nice to meet you as well. Thank you for the advice about books I will definitely take a look at them when the kids are in bed.She gets to try anything (within reason) to allow her to make her own decisions and try to make her as independent as possible.Thank you so much for your reply1
