PIP mobility and road tax

Hi everybody. Ive been told by the CAB that as I get a level of motability within PIP that I should be entitled to a reduction in my cars road tax. Does antbody know if this is true and had experience of this? My concern is if it is true and I applied for this would it not affect my insurance in a bad way as they would assume I had an added liability Surely the DVLA would be linked somehow to the insurance system. Big Brother and all that jazz.

If you receive the standard rate for mobility then you get 50% off your road tax.
If you receive the enhanced rate you get 100% off i.e. free road tax.
I have paid for road tax at 50% several times when I was on the standard rate and it never affected my insurance.
I believe (but am not 100% sure) that they are not allowed to charge more because you are disabled. A few years ago it was decided that males cannot be charged more than females as this is discrimination and I believe this is the same for disabled people but may be wrong. I have played with the insurance price comparison websites lots of times, changing my status from "unemployed" to "unemployed due to disability", and it makes no difference.
But regardless the tax band you pay for will have no bearing on what you pay for your insurance.
I hope this helps.0 -
