I'm in receipt of benefits. How could I get on a rent to buy scheme? Could I get a mortgage?

Im receiving benefits due to being disabled, also DLA for my two children. I've been on the housing list for about 5 years with no chance of getting anything suitable but was wondering how I can get on a rent to buy scheme or even if it would be possible to get a mortgage.

Hey Kellie welcome to the forum I’m not much of a expert when it comes to these questions but being on housing lists can be a long wait .Regarding getting a mortgage you can speak to mortgage advisors for free and they will be able to help answer all your questions .

Hello @kellie and welcome to the community, how are you?
Thanks for introducing us to yourself, it's great to meet you.
I don't know a lot about the Rent to Buy scheme, but you can find an information page here which will contain all the details you'll need to know.
Getting a mortgage is harder if your income comes mainly from benefits, however it is possible, there is some advice on this page about the subject and how you might go about seeing if you could get a mortgage, and also on this page.
Have you ever had a social care needs assessment? That would help you in getting higher up the list for housing.Online Community CoordinatorConcerned about another member's safety or wellbeing? Flag your concerns with us.

Hi @kellie - & welcome to the community. There's some info on the governments website about 'Rent to Buy,' but it does seem to say it's for working households. Please see: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/capital-funding-guide/2-rent-to-buy Also info here: https://hoa.org.uk/advice/guides-for-homeowners/i-am-buying/rent-to-buy/
