Hello, I would like to know if anyone is in or has been in my position. I claimed UC over 12 months ago but was transferred onto ESA a few months later ( contribution based ). I have been trying to get the DWP to put me on ESA income based as well so I can claim mortgage relief and possibly Severe Disablement Allowance. I do realise now all claims have to go via UC but I am going to lose out because the DWP did not put me on the correct benefit and amount in the first place. I am sixty one and receive a small pension of £73 per week and I receive PIP. has anyone any advice it would be much appreciated.

You cannot be put on income based ESA. It has been abolished for new claims. The ESA you are getting is presumably new style ESA which is a contribution based benefit only.
If you were entitled to an income based top up that would be paid as UC alongside the ESA. However if you are a single claimant your pension income means there is no UC entitlement.
