I'm in support group. Unsure about permitted work. Do you have to have someone supporting you?

Hi everyone. I was injured whilst teaching over ten years ago and now have crps in all limbs. I was unable to return to the job I love. I am in the support group. I would love to be able to start to do some education work/writing at home, but very slowly and only for a few hours. I'm unsure how you do permitted work. Do you have to have someone supporting you? I am on self management from all my clinics so am on my own really. I would be so grateful for any help you lovely people could give. Thank you and do take care of yourselves

Hi @angel_16A very warm welcome.
Take a look at this link

Let us know if you require further assistance.1 -
Hi and welcome to the community
You don't need any support to do permitted work all it meant by permitted is that you can only work up to 16 hours and the work should not contradict the reason you get support group
You will need to inform dwp you are working3 -

angel , here is the official guidance
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/employment-and-support-allowance-permitted-work-form/permitted-work-factsheet
The bit about supported permitted work is a historical leftover from when there was permitted work and supported permitted work and the rules for each differed. The rules for (ordinary) permitted work were then relaxed.1 -
Welcome back to the community @angel_16 I hope that the above advice and links have been helpful?
It's good to hear that you feel ready to start doing some work again. Asides from the worry you had over permitted work, how are you feeling about entering employment again?1 -
Thank you so much everyone, I didn't expect to get replies so I am so touched. I am still only tentatively thinking about it as it's been a long time but even thinking about it feels positive. Would I have to fill in a form or just inform dwp and does it trigger assessments. I've only just been through the horrors of one. Thank you all again for giving me such support when I reached out. All first steps. Thank you so much. And apologies if I haven't replied correctly.0

Hi again
I think there is a form to fill in but I would wait till it is definitely happening then give them a call
It could trigger a reassessment if they think the work conflict with the reason you are in support group0 -
Hi @angel_16
Although it a few years ago now, I had retire from full time, due to ill health.
I was asked by my employer, if I wished to be referred to a Disability Employment Advisor, at my local job centre. Best thing at did at the time, the DEA, was a kind and helpful guy.
You are informed what assistance/funding/equipments are available.
Long story short, I got a job on a clinical research project on a three year basis, working from home. I had the time of my life and worked with some very smart cookies.
In view of your background in education, in view of COVID, there will be all kinds of opportunities out there for you.
They did offer to fund a support worker, but as my wife was at home, I declined.
All in all, the whole process worked well, over those three years.
Hope this helps.1 -

It will only trigger a reassessment if the type and/or quantum of work appears to contradict the reasons you are in the Support Group.0 -
Thank you again everyone for your kind and considered replies. They are much appreciated. And Atlas47 your message was so helpful and inspiring and made me feel like you understood where I was coming from , thank you so much. It is all so appreciated.0
