Hi I finally got through to their offices after 38 minutes on hold, and was helped by a helpful young man who said he would get my new certificate sent out today.0

Hello @Cherida
Do you still have your decision letter showing the enhanced mobility award? If so, this is what is needed. From the 'financial help if you're disabled' government webpage:Vehicle tax exemptionDoes that help?
Eligibility
You can apply for exemption from paying vehicle tax if you get the:- higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- enhanced rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- higher rate mobility component of Child Disability Payment
- War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
It must only be used for the disabled person’s personal needs. It cannot be used by the nominated driver for their own personal use.
You can only have one vehicle tax exemption at any one time.
How to claim
You must include the following with your application:- a letter or statement from the Department for Work and Pensions that shows your PIP rate and the dates you’re getting it
- the vehicle log book (V5C)
- a V10 form
- an original MOT or GVT certificate (if your vehicle needs one)
- a cheque or payable order (made out to ‘DVLA, Swansea’) for 50% of the full rate of car tax for the vehicle
- an insurance certificate or cover note (if you live in Northern Ireland)

persistence pays off in the end, once you get through to DWP on the phone I’ve always found them very helpful.0

Hello rather than start a new thread my question is similar to the op. So basically my certificate of entitlement expires in June 2023 but my pip award as been reviewed until 2025 but I didn’t receive a new certificate,so can I still use the old certificate to tax my car? Reason I’m asking is the car tax isn’t due until march this year but means there will only be 4 months remaining on the old certificate,so do I need to get a new certificate? Thanks Martin.0

Providing you still have Enhanced mobiltiy you will need to ring PIP to ask them to send you a new certificate of entitlement. I beleive each certificate only lasts for the duration of the PIP award. Before ringing please make sure the certificate isn't on the back of another page.

Thanks poppy I did think that might be the case I just wanted to make sure, there is nothing on the back of any pages of the new award so I’ll give pip a call in the morning. Thanks again1

I believed that my certificate lasted for the length of my award for DLA which is indefinitely. but the Post Office woman say No it is only valid for the year it is issued. she says I cannot use it twice and have to send for a new cert every time I change my car. I used the old original cert for 10 years until the new woman took over post office. she says I cant do that now and must get a new cert. At one PO i went to a couple years ago they used my annual letter of award and just scanned the bar code on it. I think it is very hit and moiss and very un clear.0

You can also renew online, rather than at a post office. You need a new certificate of entitlement if the registered keeper or vehicle changes. Full details here. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1143399/ins216-how-to-apply-for-free-disabled-tax-pdf.pdf You must take all your documents to the post office because V5C needs to be changed to disabled class.

However, if this is a recent PIP award then this should have been included with your decision letter. Please be aware that the vehicle can only be used for the purpose of the disabled person.Once you have that you need to take all of your documents to your local post office. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1143399/ins216-how-to-apply-for-free-disabled-tax-pdf.pdfFor used vehicles, when you first apply for free tax you must also change the vehicle’s tax
class at a Post Office® branch that deals with vehicle tax. You need to take the following
documents:
• a V5C registration certificate (logbook) or the green new keeper slip and a filled
in ‘Application for a vehicle registration certificate’ (V62)
• a Certificate of Entitlement to DLA, PIP, CDP, ADP, AFIP or WPMS (please write the
registration number of the vehicle in the top right hand corner)
• an original MOT or GVT certificate (if your vehicle needs one)
Vehicles registered with a NI address need a certificate of insurance or cover note
(downloaded or faxed copies are acceptable, photocopies are not), valid on the day
the tax starts

Hi all,
Our daughter has recently been awarded enhanced rate mobility,we would like to get a car, we have made enquiries about one, apparently we need a certificate of entitlement. Is this the award letter, or do we need to apply for something else? Worrying this is a daft question, but we have never had mobility at this rate and are unsure what we are doing.0 -
