Probably a stupid question…I can’t seem to find the answer via Google so I thought I’d ask here as I know there are some food lovers.
What is a “day boat” on a restaurant menu?
It’s under fish if that helps…
Google says a day boat is fish caught in a single day, as opposed to a long fishing trip, but I’m not sure what it means in a restaurant sense
Is it simply whatever fish they have on the day?

From my understanding it’s the catch of the day which is like a special for example it could be scallops1
-
I have no idea what that means either in a food sense, so thank you for your insight @Mary_B

Thank you0

I'd never heard of that. Mary's just about right. See: https://www.themerchantboston.com/food-for-thought/why-do-we-buy-day-boat-fish/

A day boat is a type of scallop which are harvested from the coast off maine between December and February1

Thanks @chiarieds for the link
@janer1967 thats interesting to know, I wonder if what’s on the menu is something different though as scallops are usually quite dear and the day boat on this menu is less expensive than the other fish dishes
I might have to just ask what it is when we go to the restaurant and report back!0 -
Jane is also correct; day boat scallops are as she described. Hadn't heard of them either! You will have to let us know @66Mustang.Our joiner has a brother who has a property on Skye. His brother dives & hand picks scallops, which we got the following day......absolutely the best I've tasted, & free (apart from the fact we were paying them quite a bit of money to get our kitchen done at the time !)0

Let us know @66Mustang intrigued now0

Just to tie this up I went to the restaurant on Saturday and it turns out a day boat is indeed the catch of the day so I guess it changes like soup of the day.1

Another food (well drink) related question which I didn’t think warranted a new thread so I will ask it here…
Does anyone know if people wear anything (like bags) over their feet when they foot tread wine? Or is it literally bare feet? I can’t find an answer online. I accept I am rubbish at knowing what to search for.
I received a good bottle of Port for my birthday which I am obviously very very grateful for but on reading the bottle it says it is foot trodden the old fashioned way so I am a bit scared to drink it with my OCD1 -
Hi @66Mustang, it's my understanding that bare feet are used, yes. However, I would imagine the mixture of acid, sugar and alcohol deals with any potential nasties and once it has been fermented and everything else they do with it, it's meant to be just as sanitary and some might argue the hand-sorting can make it more so.

Thanks @Adrian_Scope, that’s reassuring0

Oh and a very happy birthday to you! Do you have anything special planned?

...but I still couldn't drink it....shudders0 -
Hi Mustang, I drink all sorts of Port, it's my favourite alcoholic drink and I have never been ill after drinking it, mind you, I've never had a hangover either0
-
@Adrian_Scope thanks very much we did have a fun weekend in celebration but also have a meal at home planned for today
@cress lol
@Annette1356 I’m glad you like it too what’s your favourite? I have always liked the basic Ports that you can get from the supermarket (Taylor’s etc.) but this will be my first vintage port. Looking forward to trying it.0
