Hi, my name is Anderson1! What will happen if I'm on the sick for 28 weeks?

Hi, I would like to ask a question. I have a back and nerve damage down my right side and leg. I have been off work for 6 weeks, Iam waiting for a appointment with a specialist at hospital to see what they can do. I did try and go back to work but was only there for 3 weeks and couldn’t cope with pain and Iam back on the sick. I don’t know what will happen if Iam on the sick for 28 weeks. Can you please advise.
Thanks

Hi,Check eligibility to SSP which is payable for 28 weeks from your employer. https://www.gov.uk/statutory-sick-pay/eligibility You will need a fit note from your GP to send to your employer.Whether you're entitled to Universal Credit as well as this will depend on your circumstances. As it's a means tested benefit, if you live with a partner you claim as a couple. If you have savings/capitol of more than £16,000 you're excluded from claiming. You can use benefits calculator to check entitlement.https://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/Intro/Home?cid=74b81a04-7cdc-4de8-b0fe-3a5edaf204b0A claim for UC will end any tax credits you may already be claiming. If you are claiming tax credits you shouldn't claim UC until you're 100% sure that you'll be better off claiming UC because once you claim you can't ever go back to tax credits.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying. If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help. -

Thanks, I have sent a fit note to my employer. My doctor does not want me going back to work until I have seen a specialist and I don’t know how long that will take. I work 16 hours a week and also receive Universal Credit.

You can report your health condition onto your journal, if you haven't already. You will also need a fit note from your GP. This will start the work capability assessment process off. Some information here regarding that. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/claiming/getting-universal-credit-if-youre-sick-or-disabled/

Hi @Anderson1 Welcome to the community! Just so you know, I've combined your two threads together to create this one thread. I hope that's okay.
I can see you've already received some helpful replies to your questions. Do you have any further questions? -
