Diaphragm palsy

Is there anyone out there who has had a shoulder operation and ended up with diaphragm palsy? If so, did you ever find out why it happened? I had my operation almost five years ago and I’m still in limbo. They have suggested parsonage Turner syndrome but it’s never been confirmed or treated, if either is possible.

Hello @merlinevets and welcome to the community! Thanks so much for reaching out with your query, I'm sorry to hear you're still in limbo. The uncertainty must be frustrating to say the least.

I'll mark your post as unanswered and hopefully if any of our members have similar experiences, they can share those with you :)

If you have any questions or need a hand with anything please don't hesitate to ask.

    Alex

Hi @merlinevets - & welcome to the community. I can appreciate that not having a clearly defined diagnosis has left you in limbo. I would consider asking your GP as to whether he thinks it's diaphragmatic palsy or Parsonage Turner syndrome. Perhaps he has a letter from your consultant saying which it might be?
As far as I'm aware, either can happen after shoulder surgery, but your GP/consultant is in the best position to answer your queries.
As far as Parsonage Turner syndrome goes, I don't think there's any modalities that definitely help, altho physiotherapy 'may.'

Thanks for your input. I’ve been passed from pillar to post for years now and still no answer as to why, how and what happened to damage my right phrenic nerve, whether this is surgical or related. Limbo is not a good place you be. A cure or repair would be better than where I am right now.
