Hi everyone im a newby here. My daughter is adult severe learning disabilities autism epilepsy and mostly non verbal ( although can say NO an awful lot she has challenging behaviour and is my beautiful loving cuddles light in my life. Fekkin difficult most of the time but im sure you guys may have very similar lives. Anyway enough about us, iv a question I hope someone might be able to give advice on, here goes. My daughters care package had in many years not be charged, as many of you know changes were made where people are expected to pay towards the cost. I was told that if you have a disabilities related expenditure you may pay less or nothing after an assessment. We have tried and tried to explain to the finance team at Catford that after costs there is nothing left from her benefits and we are both (me and her dad) on benefits as my husband had to leave work to help as my role as a carer led to a nervous breakdown along with other issues. We cover some costs for her , not fused with that at all.
There's no money left and iv done everything I can to show the above and beyond costs to the financial assessment team but im getting nowhere. Im sort of at a loss really don't know what to do next any help advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks for reading. Xxxxx

Hi,There is only guidance related to DRE and all local Authorities have their own rules for this. See the guidance here. https://www.real.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Reals-guidance-on-disability-related-expenditure-updated-11.12.17.pdfIt will depend what exactly you're trying to claim the DRE for.

Hello @suezi
Welcome to the community, thank you for joining and introducing yourself. I'm sure you'll enjoy taking part here, this is a very supportive and welcoming community so please feel free to have a browse around and get involved wherever you would like. We have a children, parents and families category which you might be interested in to find discussions relating to yours.
I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you are facing financially at the moment, and I hope that responses from community members can be helpful for you. Have you considered contacting CarersUK in addition to posting on the community? Just in case they can advise or support at all too.
How are you and your husband at the moment? You mentioned as part of your post that at one point you had a nervous breakdown, which I'm sorry to hear. Have you received any support to help manage your mental health?0
