Hello Scope online community
I would appreciate it if anyone could give me some advice on how to stay motivated but past few days I have struggled to motivate myself.
I look forward to receiving others advise on this matter.

Hello @Globster I think struggling to feel motivated is a common feeling, that can happen for all sorts of reasons.
Is there is something specific you want to feel motivated for, or is it a more general thing? Knowing that will help with finding the most helpful advice0 -
@Alex_Scope
I just it in general things I have been listening Motivation speaches which have lifted my spirits and I am trying to write my own story book0 -
@Sandy_123
thank you I appreciate your kind words I am carrying with the short story I submitted for the motoring opportunity you and I and you submitted to ages ago but I have to try to get to 30 pages to have a full book0 -
Just do bits each day otherwise it becomes overwhelming. You can do this 💪0

Writing can be tricky to do regularly @Globster but I applaud your efforts so far! I did find a lot of articles on motivation for writing after a quick google, but this one has the least steps:
- Write every day
- Don’t edit as you write
- Get rid of distractions
- Take a break
- Use examples from others
- Talk it out
- Try creative writing prompts

What about having a small treat, like some food you like, ready for when you complete your work or reach a certain milestone? I find that helps me sometimes.

That's a great suggestion @66Mustang I used to have biscuits on hand when I was writing essays in uni It started out as one per page, then became one per paragraph as it got harder!1

Hi @Globster, I’m so glad that you’re feeling more motivated since you first posted here. I just wanted to reiterate that it’s more than okay to take as many breaks as you need throughout the writing process. It can be long and difficult sometimes, but I have every faith that your ideas will come together eventually. I’d also love for you to share the story here, when it’s done, if you feel comfortable with that0

Reward is really important in motivation, what we find rewarding we repeat. Sometimes it helps to imagine how you’ll be when you’ve succeeded. Use all your senses and imagine how you’ll feel, what you’ll hear, see, smell, be like etc when successful and the relief from worrying about it too!
As for the journey, it’s easier to break the task down into small chunks. With writing I once found that writing down the main chapter ideas and then filling them out bit by bit by adding detail made my work grow exponentially. At first it seemed hard to write 50/60 thousand words but by filling in detail bit by bit for each chapter I found I had to edit my work because I had too many words!
Good luck @Globster 🙂0 -
Hi @Globster,
I hope all the above resources/comments have been helpful for you?
I also agree with @leeCal, breaking up writing with regular breaks and adding rewards into the process will hopefully help. When I've been writing my thesis, I use something called the 'Pomodoro Technique' which allows me to maintain concentration and motivation when writing. This technique incorporates short bursts of rests and then a longer one after you've worked for a longer period of time. It really helps me knowing that I have a break after 25 minutes (even though it's only 5 minutes) but still motivates me to keep going maybe it's worth the try?!
