Question about PIP and qualifying period

Hello,

I've joined this great community after being a lurker for a while. The past few months have been quite stressful as my father had a stroke which left him with mobility and coordination issues on one side of the body. 

I just finished sending off his PIP2 form and the supporting docs. However it hasn't been three months yet since the onset of the symptoms.

My understanding is that you can submit the claim in advance. Does this mean that they will not assess him (face to face or via telephone) until the three months have elapsed?

I've seen contradictory info on various forums so not quite sure if I should have waited three months before starting the application. 

The PIP handbook says:

"Claims can be submitted during the qualifying period but entitlement to PIP cannot start until the qualifying period has been satisfied."

The waiting time for assessments is much longer than three months at the moment.

What it means is that if awarded the claim will not be backdated to the date you rang to start the claim but instead to the date which is three months after you said the difficulties began

Ok that make sense. I was a bit worried they'd refuse the claim because it hadn't been three months since the start of the difficulties. It's going to be three months next month anyway. Thanks!
