Good evening to you all. I'm Tracey aged 53,and from South Yorkshire. I live alone and right now I'm housebound due to my disability getting worse and I hope that someone could give me some advice about my predicament. I'm desperately in need of a powered wheelchair to help me get out and about but I don't know the first thing about how to apply for it and if I'm able to get a grant from someone. I've been housebound for 4 months now and as each day passes by I'm becoming quite depressed. I have carers for my medication and a district nurse for my insulin. I also have a carer who helps me to get a shower and get dressed every morning, and then a carer who helps me with my housework for 2 hours per week. But the carers are not allowed to take me out because they are not paid for it. So I've come here to ask the community to get some advice about what I should do now. Thank you. Tracey.

Hi and welcome to the community
I too am a wheelchair user from South yorkshire
You need to get a referral to wheelchair services from your gp . Be warned though there are massive waiting lists . They also have rigid criteria for electric chairs eg if you can use a manual chair indoors they may not consider an electric chair
I fortunately got my electric chair gifted to me from a friend who no longer needed it
I presume as you have carers you have had a care needs assessment so I'm surprised that ot or social services haven't referred you
Can you walk around the house ?0 -
Also other options are leasing a chair or if you claim pip enhanced mobility you can get one through motability scheme0
