I have spinal stenosis with sever disabity effects which are getting worse. I am awaiting a consultation regarding spinal decompression surgery but need to know what support financial and equipment wise would be available to me if the surgry is unsuccessfull or declined.

    Hello @Bigguy76

Welcome to the community, I hope you are well and it's nice to have you aboard.

In terms of support, are you currently in receipt of any benefits at all? And regarding equipment, it might be a good idea to have a chat with your GP to see if they can advise anything, perhaps you could get an assessment to determine what equipment may help you.

We have several categories on the community, including some relating to financial support and adaptations for living with a disability, so feel free to have a browse and get involved wherever you'd like.

Hi @Bigguy76 welcome to the group and a BIG welcome to my world.
I had my one to one appointment with the consultant just before Christmas.
MRI and x-rays done again then decided the only option, should i choose, is the fusion operation.
Consultant had vidio chat with surgeon who agreed to it.
Then i received another letter i have been transfered to the QE hospital in Birmingham.
The surgeon there as arranged for me to have CT scan this Sunday - to check stability of spine.
I have also been on long term sick since last year, but i am lucky with my work contract sick benefit, I can not see myself going back to work as the recovery can be up to six months and it's not a cure just hopfully ease the pain.
As i am at retirement age next year my carear is over, i have applied for PIP.

I hope i havn't bored you and your still awake ha ha but thats my story so far.
You can ask me any think and if it relates to my case i should be able to answer.

Hi @Bigguy66 welcome to the forum good look on your consultation, do a benefits checker to see what you may be entitled to. Also have you applied for PIP, it may be something to look into on how your conditions effects you daily.

Many thanks for the comments, It is early days yet for me as I am awaiting the results of the spinal Teams discussion of my case. I am hoping that this will result in an opertaion for spinal decompression, which if successfull could result in a freturn to near normal. In that case no other assistance will be necessary. I am meeting next Thursday to find out, so will hold on any other actions till then.
