Use a benefits calculator as suggested by woodbine.
Universal Credit is a means tested benefit for people on a low income.
If he is excluded from UC he can claim new style JSA (for six months) if he is a job seeker or new style ESA if he is too ill to work.
Hecan claim new style benefits as well as UC but the UC amount payable will reduce the UC.
If new style ESA is applicable he can backdate a claim for this by up to three months provided his GP will give him a back dated Fit Note.

I hope that the above comments have been helpful in regards to additional benefits he could claim @Greencarrot. Please do let us know if you have any further questions on this.
Is your son is still interested in working? It can definitely be difficult to find work. We have a number of employment services, which he might find useful. Perhaps you could look into them and let us know if you have any questions?0 -
Thanks for the replies, he can work part time, sadly most employers seem to lose interest when they find out he has a disability,0

I'm sorry to hear that @Greencarrot. It's a real shame when employers aren't willing to be inclusive. There are some employers who are, however.
