Hi all I'm Kevin. I suffer with constant sciatica, due to a long standing disc Injury at the bottom of my back. I have also just been diagnosed with a trapped nerve in my neck, which is very painful. I have recently completed a pip form. Should I mention my trapped nerve to them, as well.

    Hey @Kevin64,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community.

I'm sorry to hear about how much pain you're in, I know how draining chronic pain can be. Are you currently managing the pain at all with certain techniques/medications?

With regards to PIP, The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will assess how difficult you find daily living and mobility tasks. For each task they’ll look at:
    • whether you can do it safely
    • how long it takes you
    • how often your condition affects this activity
    • whether you need help to do it, from a person or using extra equipment
Therefore, if your sciatica/trapped nerve impacts your daily living and mobility tasks, then it's definitely worth mentioning on your application. Just be sure to emphasize this and use real world examples as PIP is assessed on how your condition affects you day to day.

If you have any other queries or concerns, then please just let us know.

    Libby

    Hi,
PIP is not about a diagnosis. What matters is how those conditions affect you in relation to the 12 PIP activities. You should tell them everything about how all your conditions affect you. If there’s anything you missed when filling out the form you can tell them during the assessment because most people have them.

Have the above answers helped you to understand this a little further @kevin64? How did you find completing the form?
