Is there any hope of pain relief?

According to the Spinal Specialist I have Degenerative scoliosis, degenerative spondylolisthesis and also a small disc protrusion, therefore I have had back pain for many years.
Surgery was tried to release a trapped nerve but that made no difference and I was told that I would have to live with it, I am 81 but reasonably fit.
Since then I have been living on Co-codamol but to be truthful over the past few years they have not really helped and now the pain is so bad that walking is really painful.
I have no problem moving my various joints about, no great stiffness or anything just pain.
I am going on holiday next week and I would love to walk along the prom, any suggestions for a suitable painkiller that I could suggest to my GP that works?
When I have approached him about this he does not seem to know what to recommend apart from physio, which I have tried but with no success.
Suggestions please!

Hi there
Unfortunately we are not medical professionals so would be unable to advise on medication. Only your gp knows your medical history and suitable medication for you .
Taking advice from a forum could be dangerous
Apart from using heat or cold patches or thinking of alternative therapy like meditation , acupuncture etc but a bit late if your trip is next week
You could rent a mobility scooter while you are there if you would feel comfortable doing this
Hope you have a wonderful time

I was only looking for few possibilities that I could put before my GP, he would make the decision.0

I understand that but surely your gp should know all possible options
It might be worth speaking to a pharmacist they often have better meds knowledge than gp1 -
Hi @Spursboy
Thanks for reaching out to us. I can hear your concerns. It sounds like a difficult time for you. Unfortunately, @janer1967 was right - we don't provide any medical advice or opinion here. Simply because we wouldn't want to direct you in the wrong direction.
However, I am sure I can speak for all of us when I say I hope you are in less pain soon and find a way to manage your health with your health practitioners. If there is anything we can do to help, even just listening to you, please do just let us know. We will always help if we can! You don't have to face this or anything else alone if you don't want to0 -
Thank you, thought it was worth asking.0

Hi @Spursboy i know what it's like but one of the best things i have brought is an orthopedic cushion which is curved and has a gap at the back for your coxis - great on most seats. I also use a lot of the stick on cold pads when i know i am going in the car or walking.0

Steroid injections could give enough relief for your holidays but if not lidocaine plasters help me move about. Not all doctors can prescribe though, my is from pain clinic. I also supplement with Ibrugel 10% prescription.0
