Hello, I have had a j Pouch for 33 years and it is now not working well. I have a gastric stricture and pouchitis along with cuffitis - it is a nightmare. I had two months off work and am now being harassed in various ways to try and get rid of me. I am struggling at work and have overnight incontinence. I wonder if I would qualify for PIP or any other disability designation for that matter? I work in a job where I need to be in one location for several hours at a time away from a lavatory - it is a nightmare.

Hi @Ancupola and welcome to the community, thanks for sharing your concerns here. I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling at work, I know it's not easy when we feel pressured and harassed as well.

If you'd like to look into disability benefits Turn2Us has a benefits calculator which you might find useful. Scope also has plenty of advice and information on benefits so please do have a read.

In terms of other support we can offer, Scope also has a Support to Work programme, which you may be eligible for, and you can always contact the Scope Helpline if you'd prefer talking things through with an adviser over the phone.

You are not alone in this, and hopefully the community can help. I'm sure our members can share their own experiences of struggling with work too.

If you feel we can help further or if you have any questions, please do ask :)

    Alex

Thank you so much for your reply. I feel very vulnerable as my employer is now ruthless and has sent me a letter with all sorts of nasty things in it. I feel insecure in my place of work. I will try and call the number tomorrow for guidance. I do not know what can be done. The stress from my employer adds to my symptoms

That sounds very distressing @Ancupola, and I can imagine that it'd worsen your symptoms. Were you able to call the helpline team?

I'm also wondering whether you might find it helpful to speak to ACAS, who may be able to advise you of your rights and possible next steps. You shouldn't feel threatened or harassed at work, so I'm sorry that you're experiencing this.

You may also find reading this page on workplace bullying and harassment on Citizens Advice's website helpful.
