Working Tax Credit disability element confusion

Hello everyone. This is my first post so apologies if I mess it up.

Like many, I am confused by the Working Tax Credit system and in particular the disability element.

My wife and I are self-employed (we have been for most of our lives) and I receive PIP for my disability (since last August). Earlier this year we were notified by HMRC that we'd been overpaid WTCs for last year (we'd earnt more than our estimated income). We have sorted out a repayment plan with them and all is well . . . except I noticed on the forms that I receive the disability element and severe disability element as part of my WTC. I asked the HMRC representative sorting out our repayment plan on the phone whether these payments would stop too. They said they don't know as it was the DWP who handle those and not HMRC but they weren't very sure.

Basically, does anyone know whether I should ring the DWP or HMRC to discuss my disability element of WTC? And are these elements also income related like ordinary WTCs?

As it's now April 2022 and the new financial year I would like to find out if I'm still entitled to at least the disability element this year.

Thank you in advance and apologies if this has been answered before or is in the wrong place.

As it's tax credits you're claiming the the disability elements will be paid as part of your entitlement to tax credits. HMRC deal with tax credits, not DWP.
Whether there's any entitlement to tax credits with your increased income will totally depend on both your circumstances. As your income has increased there may not be any entitlement to tax credits.

Because you get PIP you are entitled to the disability elements in the calculation of your maximum Tax Credit entitlement. They are not separate from the whole. What is actually payable depends on your income.
