New member. Depression and feeling low

Hello, I find it quite hard to explain myself, and pretty hard talking face to face. I have over the last few months been feeling quite low and depressed 😔. I am a carer for my wife so it's quite difficult sometimes to get out. I have had councilling in the past, it did not really work for me. I used to be quite outgoing and had a few friends. I don't seem to have any now. Oh I nearly forgot, I am 63.1

Hi and welcome to the community Feel free to join in or ask any questions
Have you spoke to your gp about your low mood the charity mind have some useful hints and tips on their website0 -
Hello and thanks for posting @Nick00, it's lovely to hear from you.
I really appreciate you speaking so openly about how you feel, it can be hard to admit to others and even ourselves sometimes that we are finding things a bit tough, but speaking out about how you feel can be the first step towards better things.
Have you been in touch with your GP recently about how you have felt? You mentioned previously having counselling that didn't work for you, which is a shame of course, but it might be worth getting back in touch with your GP to see if they can support you in any other way.
I hope that being a member of the online community can be a positive outlet for you, we're always here if you ever want to have a chat, and if you ever feel as though you want to get in touch privately with the team to see if we can support you at all then our email is community@scope.org.uk
What are your hobbies and interests? When you're in a moment where you're feeling quite low it can be really beneficial to give yourself some time to do things you enjoy. I appreciate that you have a lot on at the minute with caring for your wife, but do try your best to allow yourself some time to look after your well-being.
Do you have any friends or family members who can provide any support to you and your wife to help you cope better?1 -
Hello @Nick00. Welcome to Scope’s forum. It is great to see you have joined us. How are you today?
Thanks for reaching out to us. I always appreciate how much courage it can take to reach out, especially when you are new to the online community.
Would you like to tell us more about the issues you are facing within your life, mainly feeling low? That sounds particularly difficult and we are here for you if you would like to share more with us.
In the meantime, some resources you might find useful for feeling low and depressed include:
- NHS (your GP in particular)
- Mind
- SupportLine
I can hear how caring for your wife might make it difficult sometimes to get out. Have you been able to talk to anyone else about this to make sure you both have the support you need and deserve?
Some starting places if you’re not sure might include:
- Carers Trust
- Carers UK
- Your local authority
Sorry to hear counselling in the past did not really work for you. However, I think you have done an amazing job in recognising it did not work for you. Not everything works for everyone and at least if they don’t work, they can be ruled out which puts you a step closer to recognising what might work.
Please keep us up to date with how you are, we are all here for you. You don't have to face this, or anything else, alone if you don't want to
