I was admitted to hospital the end of November 2021 with pain in my back like nothing I have ever had before and I have had two children
I was given an MRI and was diagnosed with stenosis. After a week of drugs that completely knocked me sideways the pain got bearable and I pushed to be discharged so I could get home, it’s now May and I’m still waiting to see a consultant at kings college hospital, I am taking so much medication that I’m a completely different person, I’m also so depressed. I hate who I am, I used to be so active I loved my job and haven’t been able to work since this all happened, I have two grandkids that I used to have all the time, and now nanny is no longer fun it’s completely ruined my life.

    Hello @elainetyler

Wishing you a warm welcome to the community :)

Thank you for introducing yourself and telling us a bit about what you have been going through, I'm sorry to hear that you have been struggling lately. You're definitely in the right place, we have a very supportive and welcoming group of members on here so I'm sure you'll find it to be a positive outlet.

Do you have any idea when you might be able to see the consultant at kings college?  It must be stressful having to wait around for that appointment but hopefully it comes around soon and can lead to better things for you in regards to managing your condition.

Have you spoken with your GP or medical team about the medication you are taking? You mentioned that you're taking so much that it's like you're a different person, which is concerning to read. If you feel as though the medication is having a negative impact on your well-being it might be worth having a chat about it to see if there are any alternate ways of treating your condition for now.

Have you received any support for your mental health too? It seems as though you are quite low at the moment due to everything that is going on, and I just wanted to see if you have ever spoken with anybody about how you feel? Your GP would be able to support you to manage your mental health, so I would encourage you to get in touch with them if it is ever something you feel that you need help with.

I'm sure that your grandkids still think the world of you. I can understand that it must be upsetting to feel as though you can't enjoy your time with them to the same level as before due to the impact your condition is having on you, but that doesn't mean that they will think any less of you at all.

Morning @elainetyler welcome to our great group.
Hang in there i know how it feels darling, i have got stenosis, it sounds like back in November you had your 1st major movement, it does get a little easier with time and meds, but you will need hospital intervention i'm afraid.
I further down the line with mine, they were looking at the operation but my spine is to unstable. So looking at long term pain relief now, hopefully i will be able to come of some of the bad drugs that help but change your moods etc.
What i am saying is hold tight things will get better in time, please don't look into things on some of the online things as i find there is to may negatives on there.

There are a few of us in the group with the same type of problems have a look around when your up to it.
