just watching a young family having fun after being to the beach and it occurs to me that my best years were at a similar age, during my thirties. Job established and good earnings, a partner and four young children at home. Great fun for years.

When were your best years or perhaps theyre yet to come?

I suppose I'd like to think my best years are yet to come @leeCal :) I've had some good ones, and some more difficult ones, so far. Generally, I've been trying to live more in the moment rather than dwell too much on the past or what may happen in the future. That's easier said than done, though!

Interesting thread - think i would have to say i'm living it now.
When the lads were younger we seamed to always be short of money.
Then the lads grew up, all done well at school and got great jobs, have married lovely girls and gave us 6 grandchildren so far.
I know we are both oldish, well my brain is younger then my body ha ha.
We have health issues with old bones, husband retired, but still likes to work a few days a week for his mentality.
Since i decided to retire early, on ill health, i have felt a lot better mentally and can rest my body when i need to.

@SueHeath I agree that the older years can be as good as the younger ones. Especially if you have grandchildren, because we all make mistakes as parents when we’re young grandchildren give us a chance to remedy that a little, plus they go home! Ha ha.

I'm speaking in theory because Im expecting my first grandchild in November! Great stuff.

I don’t know, and nor do the parents yet either. Not sure if they don’t want to know or they just don’t know, they had a three month scan, but you can’t tell from that picture.
exciting. I think I’d rather not know 🤔 not sure. If we knew we’d get the right colour booties that’s for sure!

Congrats @leecal my daughter is due in July, it will be my 4th grandchild 3 with my son.
I think best years was teens, no worrys, going where I pleased, with who I wanted and doing anything I wanted to do. I suppose I could do that now, but limitations through health.

Grandchildren are the best, they bring so much joy leeCal.  There is nothing better for me than hearing them running in shouting we've come to visit Grandma followed by hugs and kisses  <3... Thinking about it  I'm living my best life now  :)

    Hi @Sandy_123 Thank you 😊

yes, I know what you mean about being a teenager but what spoilt it for me was a lack of money. As a young teen I got a very small amount of pocket money and at fifteen I started work on five pounds a week. My dad took half for housekeeping even though he was well off, and the rest I spent on train fares and one packet of cigarettes a week. I used to smoke two or so a day. So had no money left to go out and very few friends at that time because we had moved two hundred miles from where I went to school so I knew no one. I was fit though.

Make sure you keep us in the loop @Sandy_123 and @leeCal i love babies.
My early teens wasn't very good, my Dad was VERY strict and i had a bad time coping with being a teen, i wasn't allowed to do anything till i was 18yrs old, not even wear make up xx

We didn't do a great lot to be honest, but we used to roam around, linking up with others, messing about. We used to buy cigarettes single for about 10p each lol. Usually with our dinner money for school. Until I got caught and biggest telling off ever. I didn't really get pocket money. Used to baby sit to get money

I hope the best ones are yet to come.

I don’t want to say I’ve had a rubbish time as that’s not true, I’ve done some great things and met some lovely people, but even the best times have been tainted by illness.

I’m hoping one day I’ll be “cured” and then the “good times” will begin.

No I meant physically fit. However...have you ever looked back at an old photo of yourself and thought ...actually I wasn’t bad looking! You know what I mean? When I was young I didn’t think I was very good looking at all and I lacked confidence because of that. 🤣

I would say my 20s young carefree had a good job lots friends fantastic social life.  Had no responsibility for anyone else lots foreign girlie holidays

But I think there are good times in all stages I say I had no responsibility but I would never change becoming a mummy which I was 39 when I had toby so well established and had done all the partying etc

You are not alone, I have that exact same thing when I look at old photos!!! The thing is I haven't learned as I still think I look awful now but will probably look back in 10 years and think I wasn't bad looking.
