Had my PIP telephone assessment today after sending form in Feb 2022.
I was updated many times regarding the call by txt and options to change though I went ahead with call.
Prior my claim I was classed as Limited capability to work on a prior assessment that UC sent me to and scored over 15 points.
It meant no extra payments other than I do not need to provide sick notes anymore or search for work.
I will be 66 later this year.
I have severe back damage and confirmation with scans that can not be surgically treated, nerve and muscles damage.
I also suffer anxiety and some depression because of this due to sleep issues.
I worked for 35 years in heavy industry until I slipped discs on a regular basis.
After above insight of my issues, to the call.
I received the call at time provided from a nice Lady who confirmed my detail's and introduced herself as a mental nurse.
It was all friendly and I asked Her on a few occasions if I can ask questions where She said yes.
I asked do you have my medical records from GP and Sh3 said yes.
I asked what He provided and She said He reported lower back pain...........
I asked if She has report from MSK and hospital ct scans, answer was no.
Alarm bells ringing now, Err lower back pain, more too this I told Her.
UC have this evidence so why don't you have as in reality this is my 2nd assessment and the UC one was face to face with exam.
I'm bewildered but at end of day She can only go on what I stated in my PIP application.
Now the questions I thought were unusual and unusual.
Do you have an aminal, yes I have a puppy dog.
Are you left or right handed, I'm left handed.
Do you have a driving licence, yes I do.
Do you have a car, yes I do.
Do you drive, no my Daughter drives for me.
Where is the car parked, is it on a driveway, yes it is, a long one near back door.
Do you cook, no I don't because I can't manage anymore, my wife cooks.
How do you bath, I have assistance in walk shower and bathing stool, my wife helps.
When was last time you left the house, last Wed to Asda, I sat in car as all mobility were in use.
What are your hobbies, I read, no TV as cant be bothered with noise, I need calming affect.
What do read on a paper, phone,PC or tablet, I use a tablet to expand because my eye's are poor so this device suits me.
How many people live with you, just my Wife.
How many kids have you got.........
When I tried to explain 8n depth how my disability affected my every day life I got the impression that it did not matter as they will use medical evidence and in my case I think my GP has not divulged enough even though I gave permission to my records.
All in all, the call was at my pace, never rushed and was allowed to put my case forward to Her.
She promoted me at the 3nd for any questions though I did not have.
Call time was 1 hour and 21 mins.
    My experience.

They very rarely contact anyone for any evidence. They certainly don’t have any access to your medical records. The onus is on you to make sure it’s sent to support your claim. It’s your responsibility to prove you qualify and not theirs.
The work capability assessment and PIP are 2 completely different benefits and claiming one doesn’t automatically entitle you to the other. The assessments are done by different health assessment providers.

    My experience.

I had my PIP assessment today as well, they do ask some weird questions such as do I have a driving licence and then asked me which hand or ear I was using the phone in. I said my right because my left ear I have lost half my hearing and that I have tinnitus, they asked me what my tinnitus sounded like but it was hard to explain and I told them so. They asked me what time I eat, I had already told them that my sister in law or brother will come over at night time with food and my son fed me before I moved last week and also that I don't really have an appetite.

I know that they say there are no trick questions but by asking things like do you have a pet, they are trying to ascertain whether you can feed or walk it as Poppy mentioned.  I only wished I could have expanded on the questions, but you cant expand on something if you don't understand why they are asking. I should have had my disability statement I sent ready, but I thought they would just let me explain my everyday life in detail.

I did feel some things they skimmed over and others they asked in a different way, especially about my eating, who prepares food, can I eat it and about my ear.  I had this feeling and I might be wrong that they are trying to catch you out, but when I wrote my statement I wasn't lying and 5 months later obviously things change, they change daily to when I wrote my statement, as no two days are the same.  They asked me about reading with my glasses can I see normal text, but I felt like screaming yes I can but sometimes when I have dizzy attacks I can't see much or concentrate on anything

They asked about my last job and had asked if I had applied for any jobs since?  I told them the truth I was sacked for my mental health when asking for reasonable adjustments and that I had tried to apply for a job with PIP (I kid you not) but through my anxiety, I cried at the interview and that is when I knew I really wasn't well enough to work.  I haven't had my work capability assessment yet, still waiting since November and I thought if you got LCWRA you got extra money, but to be honest it all goes over my head as I don't understand the benefits.

Anyway, it will be interesting to know if they assess our reports around the same time frame
and thanks for sharing, as the more people who share the questions the more it helps other people when they are due to be assessed and what they might expect, although every case is different for different illnesses there seem to be common denominators.  Good luck!!
