Hello everyone. I’m new here so I don’t have a clue on how to work this yet.
I’m hoping for any help with a new pip claim I have to do for my son who has ADHD.
I’m worried that he will not get it as I’ve been reading many negative stories about pip. He is 16 now so has to change to pip.
Thanks.

Hi,The majority of people claim PIP sucessfully without any issues. Naturally you will mostly only hear the bad stories because if someones had a decision they're happy with, they have to questions to ask so we don't hear their story.PIP and DLA are different benefits, with totally different criteria. For PIP it's not about a diagnosis, it's how those conditions affect you against the 12 PIP activities, which you can see here. https://pipinfo.net/When filling out the form you need to give a couple of real world incidents of exactly what happened the last time he attempted that activity for each descriptor that applies to him. Include information such as where he was, what exactly happened, did anyone see it and what the consequences were. You should aim for at least half an A4 side of paper per descriptor.Do a little at a time. I always find it helpful to write notes and a rough copy and add a little as and when i think of it. Put it away until the next day and then do a little more. Once it's completed you can then write or type the main copies.Always keep a copy for yourself and write his name and NI number on everything you send. If you need extra time to return the form you can request extra time by ringing PIP.He should expect an assessment because most people have them. Paper based assessments are rare but possible.

Hello @WillowHope and welcome to the community, it's lovely to see you join us.
I wish you the very best with your son's PIP claim, I have moved your thread over to our category that is dedicated to PIP so it might be worth a look through that if you want to read any similar threads.
How is your son at the moment? Does he receive all the support he needs to manage?I hope to see you getting involved more around the community. This is a very supportive and welcoming site to be a part of so I’m hopeful that you’ll find it to be a positive outlet. Feel free to have a look around and get involved wherever you’d like 😊 A few notable pages I’d recommend visiting would be:
- The virtual coffee lounge which is one of our categories, in which we play games and talk about general subjects such as hobbies and interests
- The recent discussions page, which shows an overview of everything happening across the community
- The categories page, which shows a full list of discussion groups on the community
If you have any questions at all then don’t hesitate to ask.

Thank you for the warm welcome and information that you have given. My son is currently doing his GCSEs and is very much struggling every day. Before this the school put him on reduced hours, suspended him for his impulsive behaviour. I have been fighting his corner and explaining to the school that he has a disability. All of his life he has been targeted with being naughty, so annoying!
I am finding as my son grows older that his ADHD is getting him feel more anxious and frustrated. He is on medication for it but feel that all the negative feedback he receives has mentally broke him down.He isn’t allowed to go to the prom either due to bad behaviour. You can imagine my reply.I feel helpless at the moment as I feel like I should be doing more for him by putting a complaint in towards to the school etc but I'm struggling to go down that route as I am trying to sort his pip form out too. Being a single mum I have limited time to do things as I have a toddler too.I think I needed to get that off my chest. Thanks.I just hope pip see him and understand how his disability does interfere with his daily life.0 -
I can understand @WillowHope, everything must feel as though it is getting on top of you a bit. In terms of his education, you could consider getting in touch with an organisation such as IPSEA to get some professional advise for it.
I'm glad that talking about these things is helping you1
