I am looking for a grant to have a downstairs cloakroom. My local authority says I should have a commode downstairs but I live with a man (I am female), and I invite guests to my home.

Other than this, have you thought about stairlift? Would this be an option for you? You can mention this when you have the needs assessment.

I am faster than a stairlift. It would get in my way as I have mobility problems. My stairs need to be clear. I will look at the discretionary grants you kindly linked. My OP does say that my local authority has turned me down. Many thanks, Poppy.

You may also find this page on our website about getting home adaptations helpful, though I appreciate much of it's about support from your local authority.
