Hi, after a long wait I was finally awarded lcwra on the 31st of last month 👏

I'm hoping someone could clarify the amount owed (if any)
My assessment period is the 28th-27th of each month.

I reported my health on the 26th of April 2021 but I was told I didn't need to supply fit notes due to covid so I didn't update anything on my journal after reporting this.

A few months after I was told I need to supply fit notes so I did right away, which was on the 10th of September 2021 and have continued to do so without any gaps since.

I understand the gap may more than likely effect my back pay regardless of why I didn't supply fit notes but I'm sure im owed something.

I havent had any messages since receiving my lcwra award

Thank you in advance.

did you still get fit notes from your doctor? I read recently that there's actually no legal basis for the "no gaps in sick note" rule but I don't know how true it is and I guess it would be up to a decision maker!
Even if they go from september you should get a few months at least. <3

Thanks for your reply biblioklept, I don't suppose you have a link to what you have read?

And no unfortunately I didn't get any until they asked me to, I might be able to get a backdated note if you think that would help?

    And I hope so yes

You should still have reported the fit notes within 7 days of reporting your health condition. I claimed UC for my daughter in January 2021 and reported her health condition on the same day i started her claim and added the details of the fit note. I was asked to keep the fit note just incase they asked for it. I had to continue to report the fit notes until the decision was made on her WCA.
Not reporting the fit note could go against you. If they take it from when you first reported your health condition then your waiting period will be May/June, June/July, July/August. LCWRA starts from AP 28th August to 27th September and first payment will be October.
If they go from when you first sent your fit note then your waiting period will be. Sept/Oct, Oct/Nov, Nov/Dec. First payment being January 2022.
A decision maker will make the decision when it's paid from.

Thank you for clearing that up for me poppy.

I thought that it might go against me, its my first time on universal credit and I wasn't told to do so unfortunately.

I have left a message under payments and explained, hopefully they will go with the earlier date, am I right in thinking the messages put under payments go to the Dm?

Do you know roughly how long it is until you get the letter stating if anything is owed?

Usually when you report a change of circumstances and report a health condition, the next thing it asks you to do is report a fit note.

    Yes they do.

It often takes a few weeks to recalculate your past statements to work out exactly how much is owed. Once this is done you'll receive a letter on your journal telling you how much they owe. Money owed is paid separate to your usual monthly money.

Thank you for your help poppy, I left a message and called them yesterday and today I have received a letter saying its payable from the 28th of December until the 27th of May

Is this correct going from me uploading my sick note on the 10th of septemeber?

Your right they are not going to pay the period I didn't have a sick note for but I was wondering if it would be worth doing a MR?

    Thanks again

From the September fit note date then LCWRA payable from AP 28th Dec - 27th January and first payment should be Feb 4th not January as I first advised.
Im not aware of any changes in the rules for not at least putting details of a fit note onto your journal in the first half of 2021. I had to do exactly this for my daughters UC. Usually when you report a change of circumstances and report a health it should then ask you to report a fit note.
If you have proof on your journal that you were told you didn’t need a fit note then yes it maybe worth requesting the MR.
