Hi just looking for some guidance. I recently applied for pip from dla for my ds at 16.  I have received a text that the independent assessment service has his claim. Does this mean there will definitely be no paper based review? Or do all pip applications go to them? (I’m fully aware the bulk of assessments are telephone but also read up to 16% of claims are paper based and a lot are those transferring from dla at 16) I know anything can happen and everyone’s claim is different but I am just looking for their processes if anyone knows. Also if anyone knows the rough time scales from now to assessment and then decision that would be great. Ive found the process so quick up to now I’ve hardly had time to think I had 1 week from initial call to form arriving and then 2 weeks from the form arriving to when it had to be in. (It was dated two weeks before the date it arrived) Thankyou in advance for any info.

Hello @binj and welcome to the community, how are you today?

This is a very supportive and welcoming site to be a part of so I’m hopeful that you’ll find it to be a positive outlet. Feel free to have a look around and get involved wherever you’d like 😊 I have included below a few of the pages I’d recommend having a look through to get used to things:

    • The virtual coffee lounge which is one of our categories, in which we play games and talk about general subjects such as hobbies and interests
    • The recent discussions page, which shows an overview of everything happening across the community
    • The categories page, which shows a full list of discussion groups on the community

If you have any questions at all then don’t hesitate to ask.

I have tagged your post as unanswered, and I wish you the best for your claim. I hope that you get the outcome you believe to be the right level of entitlement.

The majority of people have assessments which can be either by telephone, video call or face to face at an assessment centre. Paper based assessments are rare but do happen. I'd advise you to expect an assessment so you won't be too shocked if an appointment arrives in the post.
Waiting times can be several months, sometimes longer. They've been concentrating on new claims for quite sometime and this doesn't include those transferring from DLA.

Thankyou for the information. I had read it was probably months but it all seemed to happen so quickly I wondered if it was different for 16 year olds transferring or rather applying for pip. But from what you said they all are handled the same. Thankyou for the info have a great weekend

It's not different for those transferring from DLA. It's the same process for everyone, apart from those that are claiming through the DS1500 route.
