    Maybe I wasnt clear or you missed one of my previous messages, I was assessd by UC a year ago as being gainfully self employed and am registerd with HMRC and have just told them I didnt make over 1k and they withdrew my tax return request from me. I have a URI number so I hope that clears that up.

    This is a moot point in this case because jayjay has been found to have LCWRA so can’t be found to be gainfully self employed. 

    The majority of people claim UC without any issues. Although I understand your claim has had its issues it doesn’t mean everyone will have the same experience as you.

    It looks like they have made some serious errors with me as like  Poppy said you only are supposed to get a Gateway intervention appointment when you are stating up self employment so it is indicating that the person who wrote that dosnt know what they are doing

    I have to say I've learnt quite a bit reading through this but it's also left me with a lot of questions. I agree with @carbow32, it's probably best in this situation to sit down with a benefits specialist who can go through this with you in detail. More detail than you can here. I'd look for your closest Citizen's Advice to see what they have available.

    And I'd suggest that poppy has given completely sound advice, whereas 'some' from Citizens Advice have given really poor, incorrect, benefits advice previously. Altho sometimes it's appropriate to suggest getting additional advice, I'm not sure sometimes why the Scope team signpost members elsewhere!
    I'd only ever suggest trying a Welfare Rights Office if a problem was complex, but not unfortunately Citizens Advice usually.

    Thanks @chiarieds, I appreciate that! I really don't know what other advice anyone could expect an "expert" to advise. It's quite straight forward really and UC need to recalculate your most recent statement and remove the MIF. You need a case manager to do this and not a work coach. Work coaches often give incorrect advice. 

    If the message was put under the payment section then a case manager should see it. 

    I also agree about CA and I've heard of some truly shocking stories of the misleading and incorrect advice they've given so many times. 

    If all else fails and you still don't get any joy then contact your local MP and that should get them shifted as in most cases it does.

    Thank you Chiarieds, I agree regarding Poppy she really does give great advice and really knows a great deal about UC subjects as I have followed her on other threads and she is bang on with the subjects and that I am really greatful for as she is an absolute asset to this group

    Confusing alright!
    It sounds as though you were incorrectly found to be 'gainfully self-employed' and you've now reported a change as instructed.

    It may trigger a re-assessment to determine if you are LCWRA...who knows what they're up to. Take screenshots of statements as they overridden when previous awards/payments are recalculated.

    They need to explain the reduction but coaches move on quickly and the next one will say you were incorrectly advised. Let's hope it's sorted quickly.

I know they have made and error and have made sure my case manager gets my message and will follow up on Monday with a phone call to make sure everything is in order and on the correct communication lines. I would not be contacting CA as that dosnt really make much sence to me and need to deal with the source of the problem which is UC and my case manager Tim.

    @ What The, Thank you for your imput, everything is fine now and it will get sorted out on Monday. My case manager will not put me through a new assesment as he delt with the last one and it was him that sent me the LCWRA letter to say it had been granted, he himself has actually been very efficiant with his dealing with me in the past and he will sort this out I am sure.

    That's highly unlikely because nothing has changed. The only thing that's happened is the calculation for this month is incorrect. This will not prompt a referral for a review. Not all change of circumstances results in something bad happening.

    I realise that you've not had the best experience but please remember that most people have no issues and those that do, usually end up being sorted.

    I do hope so. My case managers kept changing and one refused to speak to me for a year. I'd certainly like to believe they are not all like mine.

    Hi Everyone hope you are all doing well today, just some feed back I have just recieved a letter from my case manager with a very poilite note to say that an error had been made and how sorry they were and apologied for any stress and inconvienece caused. It did take around 10 messages from me in my journal and by phone but its sorted out now so it shows that persistence pays. This also kinda shows me that case managers are actually over loaded with cases and think it cant be easy for them. I still have faith in them. Thank you everyone and especially Poppy x x x x
