I've always wished that there was a Dyspraxia Support Group. Dyspraxia really affects my life, particularly my working life.

Welcome to the community @katie_rosa89 Thanks for joining!
You're welcome to post about your experiences with dyspraxia here on the community. Even if other members don't have any personal experience of living with dyspraxia, they may be able to relate to some of the barriers and challenges you face.
Would you feel comfortable telling us a little more about how having dyspraxia affects your working life?
You may also find it helpful to get in touch with the Dyspraxia Foundation, to see if they can identify any support groups or similar that you could access.0 -
Hello @Katie_Rosa89! 😊 A warm welcome to you on Scope! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Yes, Dyspraxia does not seem to be that well recognised.I have a friend with Dyspraxia, who I met at college and she is the loveliest person I know.
I have found this organisation online called British Dyslexia Association, which you may find helpful: https://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/services/helpline
Best wishes

Thank you everybody for the warm welcome! I'll try the dyspraxia society too. Basically work has been difficult for me as I struggle with speed, concentration and I have a poor memory. Workplaces have actively tried to get me out and I have actually been let go from a job recently. I am at quite a low ebb at the moment though I'll recover. All workplaces want you to be perfect and its impossible.0

Hello and welcome to the community @Katie_Rosa89, thank you for replying.
Sorry to hear that you are feeling low at the moment, and that you have had challenges with work in the past. Have you disclosed to your past employers about your condition and how it impacts you in the workplace? They could look to make adjustments for you so that you can overcome some of those barriers and thrive despite any extra challenges you face.

Fellow Dyspraxic, I have never been able to even get a job because I have never made it past the interview stage. The older I got the harder it was as no one wants to hire a 30+ year old with no work history even though I have done uni and lots of courses so Im well educated/trained.

Hi @brokendoll Thanks for sharing your experiences with us! It can be disheartening when we don't feel as though we're getting anywhere with our job search. I'm wondering whether you might find it helpful to access one of our free employment services. Perhaps you could take a look and let me know what you think?0
