Good morning l was looking for articles on Conductive Education and stumbled upon this forum. A member was asking about the Peto Institute. I couldn’t find a date on the post, but l first went there when my son was 6 months old - he is now 27! I went for six weeks at a time and it was really amazing. At the same time Scope in London used to organise’Holiday Clubs’ and would invite Conductors from the Peto Institute to run the classes. I have recently found two Conductors who work in Lymington and l have started classes for my son. I am very excited that he will be involved, once again, in this holistic therapy where he will learn new skills and every achievement will be celebrated. Sorry for such a long introduction- a trip down memory lane for me!

Welcome to the community @marion8
I've had a search on the community, and found the following discussions about conductive education:- Conductive education
- Conductive education
- Private conductive education in Coventry for CP
- Conductive Education Summer Block Sessions in Bexley
- Peto Institute- Anyone been there?
I don't know much about conductive education really. Would you like to tell us a bit more about what it involves, and how it can help?0 -
Hi Tori
Thank you for your message and warm welcome. You asked me to tell you more about Conductive Education, so what better way than to ask a Conductor (this is the name given to someone who is qualified in Conductive Education) to describe what it is and this is what Judit said:
" In simple terms: Dr András Pető's goal was to rehabilitate and create a life worthy of human living, regardless of the severity of the neurological condition. Although he was a physician Dr András Pető was the first to regard neurologically based conditions as educational problems, teaching disabled children and adults how to learn to handle themselves. He believed that neurological problems are organisational problems and a better organisation needs to be taught. He has broken down functional, emotional, psychological, and cognitive tasks into achievable steps so children and adults can learn them and find their own success in the process, building their self esteem and empowering them to take responsibility for their own learning and ultimately for their own lives. The system he designed helps people to succeed by giving them more options in life and opening up more possibilities to choose from".
Since my son has started attending sessions with Judit and Mandy, I have seen an improvement in his walking and he has also become more vocal, which is amazing. Richard did have Conductive Education for many years when he was young, but since he got older and went into the 'school system' I did not pursue this. However, with hindsight, I wish I had continued as he previously learnt so many skills, which I think would have evaded him. I am delighted to have found this invaluable, holistic approach to education and rehabilitation again. If anyone would like further information you can access their website.https://juditszathmary.com/services
Best wishes
Marion
