Hello - I've signed up here to try to help my sister who is in Australia.  I live in UK with our 93 year old mother.  My sister Sally has NMO and is paralyzed waist down after spinal injury.  Mum and Sally so want to see each other again and I wondered if anyone had experience of flying with a spinal injury.  They so want to see each other again and I'm thinking if I could get them both to (e.g.) The Philipines or Singapore (which would only be around an 8 hour trip for Sal), I could arrange carers etc in the hotel.  It's a long shot, but if anyone has any advice at all, I'd really appreciate it.  Gillian

Hello and welcome to the community @GillianSally and thanks for reaching out with your query :)

To help our members share their thoughts on this more easily, I've moved your post over into our chronic pain and pain management category, as we have a few members with spinal injuries who post here. I've also marked it as unanswered to bump it up a bit.

I don't have experience of this myself, but your suggestion of meeting at a 'mid point' is sensible, definitely. Good luck with arranging things, I'm sure it'll be quite a trip for both your mum and Sally!

If you haven't had a look around already, please feel free 😊 I have included below a few places to get to know other members and get used to the forum:
    • The virtual coffee lounge which is one of our categories, in which we play games and talk about general subjects such as hobbies and interests
    • The recent discussions page, which shows an overview of everything happening across the community
    • The categories page, which shows a full list of discussion groups on the community

If you have any questions at all then don’t hesitate to ask, and thanks for sharing a bit about yourself. I hope you are staying cool today!

@GillianSally Just checking in to see how you and your family are keeping? I hope you are all doing as well as can be and have explored the idea of travelling some more. It would be lovely for your mum and sister to meet up 'in person', I agree!

I had a little look online and the Spinal Injuries Association have a guide to Travelling with a Spinal Injury that might come in handy. It covers a range of topics from preparing to fly and seating to do's and don'ts, so I'd recommend having a gander when you have some spare time.

Take care and remember where we are if you should need us.

Thanks so much for coming back to me, and the document.  I'm off to Australia to see my sister in December and we'll talk about it some more then.
