Hello
I am a mum of a 12 year old son who developed vocal tics 2 years ago. He then went on to develop one motor tic of rolling his eyes. The motor tic subsided but his vocal tics are getting worse and worse.
The tics are affecting his daily quality of life including his schooling.
I have had to keep him off school today due to the severity of the tics and the pain they are now causing him.
We have a GP appointment next Friday but I am at a loss of what to do. He was referred to the community paediatric department who assessed him 6 months ago and then discharged him.
Does anyone have any advice on where I should get my son referred to? I will pay privately but I don't wuite know who would be best to see... is it neurology or psychaitry...
Please helo, i feel helpless. I want to ease the pain for him.

Hello @Mrsb89 and thanks for reaching out today, to help our members share their thoughts, I've moved your post over into our Children, Parents and Families category.
Can I ask if your son has been diagnosed with any particular disabilities or health conditions which might cause the tics he's experiencing, just so that I understand more fully?
Is your son provided with any additional support at school, such as having an EHCP?
I'm sorry to hear about the impact your son's tics are having on his quality of life. It's positive to hear that you've got an appointment with your GP very soon. Hopefully they will be able to refer you to a speech and language therapist perhaps, or another specialist who can provide more tailored support.
What was the result of the assessment by the pediatric department if you don't mind me asking?
Let us know if you feel we've missed anything, or can help you further, and I hope you find this community welcoming and supportive
