Does anyone know if the parent claiming child tax credit can add the disabled child element even if the other parent is appointee on the dla claim?

    Hello @kerenza7

Wishing you a warm welcome to the community, it's lovely to see you join us :)

I have moved your query over to our PIP, DLA and AA category and marked it as unanswered.

This is a very supportive and welcoming site to be a part of so I’m hopeful that you’ll find it to be a positive outlet. Feel free to have a look around and get involved wherever you’d like 😊 I have included below a few of the pages I’d recommend having a look through to get used to things:

    • The virtual coffee lounge which is one of our categories, in which we play games and talk about general subjects such as hobbies and interests
    • The recent discussions page, which shows an overview of everything happening across the community
    • The categories page, which shows a full list of discussion groups on the community

If you have any questions at all then don’t hesitate to ask.

Are the parents claiming tax credits as a couple? If so then yes, either of them can report changes to their tax credits claim by contacting HMRC.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

no no they have been separated for many years. He has always had the children. Always claimed the child benefit and tax credits since. He found out yesterday that’s she started claiming dla for one of the children so he’s not appointee.xx

If the child is living with him, how can the mother claim DLA for the child?

Apparently as long as she uses the money on her she can claim it. She does have her at weekends. Annoyingly she didn’t tell him she had been claiming it since last year!!!x

Yes he can have the disabled child element added even if she's the named person on DLA claim. He should contact tax credits and explain they have been awarded DLA @kerenza7
