Cheers racyguy although I tend to agree with you and they will want their money and leave me hungry or in more debt, I am going to put up a fight before I end up going hungry though
    That's OK
I went down to the Council and pointed out to them that they had no right to consider the PIP & Attendance Allowance awards as available income.
Both of those benefits are there to pay for the needs that exist because of disabilities.
Their attitude was that they can take everything into account. I then asked if they would want to pay for our transport costs, the special types of food/drink that we need, etc. No, was their answer. It's our choice if we want to leave our home and our choice if we want different foods etc. Then they suggested/asked if we had asked our bank for an overdraft if things were that tight. I pointed out that they aren't tight at the moment but will be if you take our money, paid by the government because of our needs due to disability off us.
I was then asked to leave as I was causing a scene.

What an absolutely disgusting attitude the council has

so they are willing for you to get into debt by asking you to get an overdraft! Disgusting

Let's be honest I was already in debt to the Council for this years CT. What they wanted was for us to shift that debt onto someone else - the bank, the gas & electricity provider etc.
At the end I managed to clear the balance that was outstanding from April 22 and have been keeping the CT up-to-date since. Mind you they do have a whacking big stick hovering above us in that even though we are not in debt with the Council they have refused to cancel the Liability Order just on the off chance that we miss any of the payments (in part or whole) before April next year. If that happens Bailiffs will be instructed immediately to remove goods etc from our home.
The 'debt' has been shifted to the fuel providers (Eon) so they are now chasing for it to be paid.
