Hello .
I’ve recently been diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy at 49! I am a twinthat was born premature with a low birth weight .
I’ve always walked on my tiptoes . My leg muscles are incredibly tight . I’ve worn shoes that raise my heels since the age of 18 , so now can’t put my heels down to walk .

So much to say , but I’ve been on this journey to find this out for 8 years , I’ve seen every specialist, the final one thankfully being a neurologist at the QE in Birmingham. After a brain scan , he found a brain bleed deep in my brain that had been there since birth . He told me I had cerebral palsy in a phone consult whilst at work . I fell apart , a week later my daughter started her GCSEs. Today she got her results . She did brilliantly.
I’m in pain every night . I don’t tell anyone . I document my symptoms, and thankfully I see my neurologist next Tuesday 30th August . I feel pretty down about it all . Hoping to connect with people that know how I feel x

Welcome to the community @RachelO and thanks for explaining everything so well. It must be difficult to put into words the emotions that come with being diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (CP) at age 49!
I have mild CP myself, and I was diagnosed as a child, and I'm so glad that you are able to access support now, especially with seeing your neurologist very soon.
I can't imagine how getting a diagnosis at the time you have feels, but I hope you can find the community here a helpful and supportive place. You can visit our Cerebral Palsy category to connect with other members who have CP, and start your own discussions as well.
I'll also tag @Richard_Scope our CP information officer, so please feel free to ask any questions you might have, no matter how small.
And many congratulations to your daughter on her brilliant GCSE results, you must be so proud!
I look forward to seeing you around on the forum
