Hi, i want know more about CP. could anyone discuss about the lived experience of a person who is unable to communicate. Communication is the key to express ourselves but if someone is not able to communicate due to CP and it’s related comorbidities, how would you discuss his or her lived experience?

I don't personally know the ins and outs of CP. I do know however that @Richard_Scope is an ambassador for CP on Scope so he will be best placed to help you.1

That's a very good question! CP affects people in a wide range of ways but some people with CP also have issues with speech and making speech sounds. My son is one of these, and cannot make any articulated speech sounds at all. However he can communicate and is actually at University! He communicates by way of AAC - Alternative and Augmentative Communication, which means using symbols, or words on a board or a full blown computer based "talking" device. The scandal is that still far too many children and adults with CP are not provided with the right specialist AAC Speech and language therapy input, nearly early enough, and so can get to school age and beyond with no reliable method of communication. This is a subject I could go on and on about ...but I'll stop now and point you to https://www.communicationmatters.org.uk where you will find lots of useful info. It is a UK wide charity and a member of the international AAC community ISAAC https://isaac-online.org/english/home/
