BILLS Advice.. Change DIRECT DEBIT to STANDING ORDER FOR YOUR BILLs. They may say this is not accepted IT IS....This way you can have some control over what comes out of your account monthly/quarterly. Having had the experience of getting a huge Gas bill for 1 month for £980.00. Not only was I shocked but all my money would have disappeared . Being an unpaid Carer my income is not alot. Their excuse was 'oh must have been a mistake'. But others may find out to late or even have a heart attack by their mistake..Then last month the same with the Electricity. Both had only estimated and not taken into account that I phoned through before the 1st April deadline when the prices were to go up. Since then am actually in credit with the Gas. The Electric have since charged me £10 extra each month whilst they say they are sorting it.. Thou they just send the same bill even though I have communicated with the company , explaining the situation.. Well not worth going grey over..... and will not be paying the extra tenner's they are putting ontop of the bill that's incorrect..

Hi there @bizzi and thanks for sharing your advice and your recent experiences with the community. That bill certainly must have been a nasty shock!
The rise in energy prices is a topic that's being discussed widely across the forum at the moment, and you'll find many similar discussions in the Coffee Lounge, where I have moved your post
You can also share how the cost of living crisis is impacting you in our disability rights and campaigns category.
You might also find Scope's Disability Energy Support service worth having a look at for any information and advice on help with your energy costs.
Let us know if we can do anything further to help, and enjoy your time on the community.

Hi Bizzi,
Oh don't use capitals its considered rude and impolite on here-- sorry pvt joke between myself and the Moderators on here, no that's really good Advice about SA against DD
My Opinion, never to be confused with fact (again pvt joke), and this is for anyone whose received a very large G or E bill , is to contact the companies and tel them verbally and on paper that you cant afford it and wont be paying it, now that sounds incredibly simplistic , , well it is, there will be literally Millions of people who cant pay there bills, so , the energy companies have 3 choices, cut you off, take to court over unpaid bill, and install pre pay meters---which as anyone knows are more expensive, or just accept you cant pay
The government will save us, lol No they won't
Put hundreds of thousands in county court judgment situation, i very much doubt, the issue isn't today or even this winter, for this yr, we might get assistance , its next winter we should be worrying about, another money saving tip, is cancel your tv licence today................ let the bbc/capita try and put you in court over non payment, the choice is Eat+Heat or pay tv Licence? (I wont mention how you don't need to pay Sky to view sky tv, but if anyone's interested just msg me), im 99% certain no ccj will be issued for nonpayment, courts wont want the backlog or grief over this, just refuse to pay it, options for a court are fine, action over nonpayment of fine=jail......... It doesn't and wont happen --to be fair though jails sounds an ok option for winter , two hot meals a day,, television and phone in your cell, (your warm cell), weekly access to a dentist and doctor, ahhh stuff that dreams are made of in normal life for many.
I'm really interested to see how the Gov handle this, and what assistance they offer, but the info is out there for anyone to see about future gas and oil prices- hence why we should worry about sept23-april 24
Another tip , if you owe money provide whoever it is credit card company , energy supplier, with an up to date income and expenditure form, it basically shuts there process down of chasing the money esp with today's costs of living
Just my opinion(having checked my own guidelines I think its fine) , i'm sure the experts on here will disagree with my opinions......lol
Every public house that is struggling to pay there rent and make a living NOW , will be on the edge of the cliff this winter with super high gas and electric---any help from the Liz/Rishi crew? well there was none from Boris, so i doubt help will be coming , meaning pubs/restaurants will simply close their doors this winter, you have been warned
Two very quick examples- adverts presently being shown on our tv screens, by Eon, buy heat pumps to heat your home, and save money and the planet, and get a Big Discount from Gov to do so-- brilliant sounds a marvellous idea ill consider it, About 40 mins later another Eon add comes up, buy solar panels, heat ,save blah blah blah, but Zero grant/discount to buy them from Gov to do so. Excuse my ignorance but wheres the difference ?
Example No2.
Be green , be Cool, save the planet, buy a shiny new electric car, sounds great my neighbours got one, i think about time i helped the world, off people go to the dealership, the 20yr salesman does his best but wobbles a bit when you ask about the Gov discount you'll get for buying one----Its gone, cancelled by Gov,, ermm but now i just cant afford it, so back home you go muttering under your breath, and look at the options for charging such a car at home--low and behold, to get a home supercharger fitted, the Gov WILL give you a grant/discount .
Now I bow to the experts on here, and promise not to upset them with plain speaking but wheres the logic, answer, there is none. , and a final thought, if Ukraine had been in Nato and or EU with a few thousand Brit squaddies stationed there all this wouldn't have happened, wonderful thing hindsight
Anyway good luck with your bills Bizzi
