April 2020 My Brother in Law, who is in his 50's and loves his cycling, got mugged for his special cycle, and was left with a broken leg, that needed two opps to fix.
Early this morning, while cycling to work. he got hit, side on, by a speeding car, smashing the cars window screen and breaking his arm in two places, lucky young man in my mind.
He was sent home from a&e after CT scan on body to make sure every think else is okay, loads of pain killers and arm/shoulder all strapped up, given an appointment for 6th Oct to see a Doc at the hospital to check how things are healing.
Another story for how bad he felt A&E was, compared to when he was in hospital at the start of covid, Very worrying x

Thanks all - it was not a good day yesterday, thanks for your comments.
We have all been so worried, we all agree about the hospital, okay they did a full CT scan, which was good, but i do worry about blood clots, after affects with the trauma, etc. I don't know what sort of a night Mike has had yet, looking at no news as good news, well fingers crossed. I spoke to Mike on the phone last night, dosed up to the hilt with pain killers, he was saying he doesn't want to go back to A&E at all !!! I do feel so sorry for the staff there, sounds like a lot of them are walking round like zombies, they are trying to do their job the best they can, we will lose more staff at this rate. He wasn't even treated in a cubical, he was moved of the ambulance trolley on to a hospital one, to release the ambulance crew, and all his treatment was done in the corridor, he said it was awful, all his clothes were cut off him and he was wired up to the portable machines and left till was his turn, he even had to wet himself because the bottle thing they gave him for the toilet was full, no one even had time to empty it.
Hopefully we are going over to see him today, i have to see him with my own eye's before i can settle, if that makes sense. xx0 -
I'm so sorry to hear about this too @SueHeath what an awful time for your brother-in-law It really does sound like the A&E staff were very stretched as well, not a good situation for anyone involved.
I hope he's able to recover smoothly and get over the shock of everything in familiar settings, and with loved ones close by Let us know how things go on 6th October if you can.1 -

Thanks again All,
An up date about my Brother in Law...........
He had a telephone call this morning from the fracture clinic - they saying Mike needs an operation, they said they would phone him with all the info of were he has to go and when to be nil by mouth etc
I hope to god he hears today, this is so strange for my old brain to take in !!!!!!!!0 -
Glad they have reviewed his case and taking some follow up action
I would strongly advise a complaint to pals regarding his treatment in a&e I know it's not staff fault but these things need reporting more so hopefully management can take some action1 -
I know what your saying @janer1967 in this case i worry that the staff, that are working would be blamed and it is not their fault - the whole system is so wrong - so who and were was the person yesterday that should have made that call - i just hope to god they didn't send him home without looking at the xrays/Ct scan results etc, he is in a right mess black and blue all over and so uncomfortable i still can't believe that they have sent him home like this !!!!
I'm starting to get angry now, the longer he is waiting for that phone call, i think i will be making that call to pals at this rate ha ha - thanks Janer xx

Sorry to hear of your experience @SueHeath
I agree it sounds very unlucky. As @leeCal says a lot of drivers don't give cyclists the space they need.
Haven't used this acronym for a while...used to find it quite useful...I think the NHS is "FUBAR" at the moment.
Look it up if you don't know what it means!!!0 -
Ha ha will have to @66Mustang never heard that word before ha ha.
Thanks for your thoughts aswel x1 -
Thanks @Karen7788 yeah be glad when he gets that call.
