Motability have announced this week that £350 of scheme user's 'Good Condition Bonus' will be paid early, to help with the cost of living.

You can read more about what all this means if you're a Motability customer on their website:

We’re working hard to keep the Motability Scheme as affordable as possible in a time where costs are rising.

In reviewing the Scheme this year, we found that customers are taking such good care of their vehicles, we can pay £350 of your Good Condition Bonus early. We hope this payment can provide some help with making the most of your vehicle during a challenging time.

The remaining amount will be paid at the end of your lease as usual for vehicles returned in good condition. This will be £250 for a three-year lease, or £550 for a five-year lease.

Receiving your payment

Payments will start from late October for customers who have added their bank details in their Motability Scheme online account and will take around three weeks to complete.

There are also changes for any new leases ordered on or after 1st October 2022. This means that the 'Good Condition Payment', as it is now called, for three-year leases for vehicles will be £250. For five-year leases this will be £350.

Motability say this will help keep the costs of the scheme as low as possible for it's users.

How do you feel about this news? Do you think it will it help with your motoring costs?

I thought this might be of interest.

Apologies if it has already been posted, and I missed it.

    https://news.motability.co.uk/scheme-news/good-condition-early-payment/

    Essentially:

For customers who took their car out before 1st Oct 2022, £350 of your Good Condition Bonus is going to be paid early. The remainder will be paid as normal at the end of your lease.

For new leases taken out as of 1st Oct 2022, the bonus is going down, you will just get £250 for a 3-year lease and £350 for a 5-year lease, down from £600 and £900 respectively. No £350 interim payment. Also, it is being remanded the Good Condition Payment.

For full details click the link.

I hope this helps someone. :)

No problem @66Mustang it's probably the spam filter, I've unblocked it now :)

Thanks for posting about this as well though, personally I think it will be a big help, for the short-term at least.

As your post does contain some extra information, I've merged it with this one.

    Thanks @Alex_Scope :)

The money isn't any more than before, it's just the same for existing customers, less for new customers

But I think if it means they didn't have to increase prices by as much then I'm all for it.

Also getting the £350 early will help a lot of people.

Thanks for this, I hadn’t seen it until now. It will certainly help!
@66Mustang I hope they do decrease the advance payments because at the moment they are ridiculously high. A lot of cars are way off limits now for so many people.

My lease was up a while ago and I’ve just carried it on with the same car. I did receive a good conditions bonus during lockdown.
I’m not sure if I would be due a good conditions bonus this time round? I’ve not heard anything anyway x

@66Mustang I never got a new car as I couldn’t afford one, but I did carry on the lease I already had. Would I be entitled to a good conditions bonus or not because technically I’ve already had it on this car? Just not the new lease.
    (I’m sorry!)x

I just checked online and there is a frequently asked questions one of which is…. I extended my lease  am I still entitled…and it says yes.
so for anyone who extended their lease before October is also entitled x

You wouldn't have had the good condition bonus if you extended your lease, which is why they have included the money for extended leases. Under normal circumstances you only have a good condition bonus when the car is returned.

    @poppy123456

”The amount you receive depends on the length of your agreement. It’s currently £250 for a three-year lease and £350 for a five-year lease. This follows changes made to the Good Condition Payment on 1 October 2022.

During the COVID-19 situation, customers were able to request a £600 Good Condition Payment to be paid before the end of their lease. If you received this and are still in the same three-year lease, you will not receive a Good Condition Payment when you return your car. If your lease is for longer than three years, you will receive the balance of this payment.”

I got that from the motability website.

I got an early good condition bonus during the Covid 19 pandemic and then the lease ended, I set up a new lease with the same car. So it’s the same car but a different lease 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a brain condition an sometimes if it’s not in simple terms it’s hard to absorb properly.x

@Hannah86 I can't imagine it was a new lease agreement on your current car, it was likely to an extended lease for a further 2 years, this is the maximum time you can lease the same vehicle.
As you had the £600 during the pandemic, this will affect how much you will receive this time. The good condition bonus for a 5 year lease was £900. This means if you had £600 you only have £300 left to receive back and not the full £350.

    @poppy123456

i did think lease extension as apposed to a brand new one 🙈
I had no idea how it all worked, especially with the same car.
thank you so much for that ^^^ it’s about as clear as it can be! I don’t drive the car an I couldn’t remember when we even extended (I almost typed renewed again!), but I know it was before October. Thank you so much for putting that so clearly x

Hello @dingdong0032 it's something Motability have announced will come in from this year to help with the cost of living.

If you've leased your car for 3 years, normally you'd get a good condition bonus when you return your car to the dealership at the end of your lease, providing the car is in good condition.

This year, £350 of this bonus will be paid early, but there was nothing announced by Motability to help with costs before 2022, does that make sense?

Anyone received the £350 yet? Read the e-mail which stated end of October. Called Motability and the automated system said it can take as long as until the end of Dec to complete. Spoke to an advisor when got through and he said payment are being made from yesterday (Tuesday 25th)

Don’t know why they don’t have a system that can just send the payment to everyone in the same day?! It’s always a guessing game. Surely the computers can handle it! If I can send a payment to someone and they’d get it in seconds but for some reason governments can’t

I dont want the bonus now as when I rewew my car the deposit  is so high that if I didnt have this bonus then I would not be able to afford a car. As my husband works I am not entitled to help with this cost.

Unfortunately you don’t have an option but to receive the £350 now because they have changed the good condition bonus from 1st October and it’s dropped to £250 for a 3 year lease. This is why they are returning the £350 now.
