Non Dependent/HCC

Hi,

Just trying to get my head around UC rules when it comes to a non dependent deduction/housing costs contribution and a partner/carer.

I know that because I receive PIP that I won’t ever have a non dependent/housing costs contribution deducted if someone other than my partner stays with me. However where does this stand with a partner that provides care for you? If you live separately (separate houses, finances etc) but your partner stays with you as a carer, is this something that UC can penalise you financially for? Or if UC know you need overnight care sometimes, is it acceptable that you will have someone stay with you and it doesn’t matter who it is?

I have a lot of help from my partner and my Mum, Dad, Brother etc. just making sure I don’t do anything wrong as I’m such a worrier!

thanks 😊

If your partner lives in their own house, paying their own bills then it doesn't matter how often they stay with you because it won't affect your benefits.
As a partner if they did live with you, they won't be classed as a non dependant anyway because you would be required to claim UC as a couple and your joint circumstances would be taken into consideration.

Hello there @7501x I can see Poppy has answered your query, was there anything else you're still unsure of, or need a hand with?

I hope you're enjoying the weekend, and don't hesitate to ask if you need anything :)
