Please can I ask if anyone around the Manchester/Bury area knows of a Hydrotherapy pool that I could have access to so I can continue to do my self-management.  I still go to the hospitals pool once a week, but I need to be able to do at least one more session a week or even 2 more.  The only places I've been able to find I would have to hire out the whole pool incl a lifeguard so thats way out of anyones pocket, and the other place that I have tried is not the cleanest so I didn't feel comfortable there.  Any recommendations would be great, if they exist.  Thanks

Welcome to the community @BaileysMum :)

I'm afraid that I don't have any personal recommendations for you. Though you're looking in different geographical areas, you might find it helpful to connect with one of our other members, @LottieL17, who's also looking for hydrotherapy pools.

I searched online to find hydrotherapy pools in your area, but I imagine that they're ones you've come across already.

Have you spoken to your local council about this?

Thanks for your reply.  I didn't actually get notification there was a reply so not sure how to set that up.

I had contacted scope to see if they knew of anywhere and they suggested to ask in here.

When I google its mostly only dog hydro comes up which is crazy.  Which are the ones that you've found please?

I haven't spoken to the council but I have spoken to Beats who are the ones doctors refer us to for exercise programmes.  They dont know of any in this area.

PS Ive just found the notification settings on here and its already set up to receive notification emails, i get change of levels and badges emails, but nothing about your reply.

    Hi @BaileysMum :)

We're having problems with our notifications system at the moment, so no one appears to be receiving any notifications. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this. Our platform providers are hoping to fix it this week.

When I looked online, I found the following:

Thank you for that list.  Elmsbank and Vestacare pools have to be hired out privately so as an individual thats over £50 a time.  The HydroHub arent in my area, Im in Bury, Gtr Manchester.  The ones attached to physios and private hospitals dont have sessions for self management, only with a physio, so costing a lot of money each time. the first two on the list are the same place, as are the last two.  The Neuro centre arent doing sessions now but they would be with a physio.  So unfortunately there still doesn't seem to be anywhere :(

    Hi @BaileysMum
Finding a suitable hydrotherapy pool is a challenge! This tool from Physio2U might help your search, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists also endorses it.

Many gyms and spas have pay-as-go access to their pools. The pools are often at or around the same temperature as conventional hydrotherapy pools. This may also be a solution.

Swimming pools unfortunately arent as warm and they dont have bars around which you need to exercise off, plus I need the bars cos Im not a swimmer.  From what I can see with gyms with hydro pools, you have to pay the full membership to have access to it.

Ive made contact with a couple from your list.  Spire charge £70 for a 30 min session, totally ridiculous when Elms Bank charge £54 to hire the pool out lol.  Any that are attached to a physio, you have to pay for a physio session so its in double figures each time.  You would think there would be decent accessible places to use.  I believe there are quite a few of us who go to self management at Salford Royal who would like to have access elsewhere  its sad

Thought you'd like a laugh.  Elmsbank charge £54 to hire out the whole pool to yourself which obviously isn't feasible to an individual every week, I had already spoken to them a few weeks ago and they are the ones I referred to in my post.  But OMW thats nothing compared to the other places on the list.  I thought Spire were expensive when I rang them yesterday, but I just had this reply from the NeuroTherapy -

"We would be interested in, first of all, arranging a 90 minute initial assessment with one of our specialist neurological physiotherapists. The assessment includes a full consultation, physical assessment and further physical treatment. The cost of the assessment is £157.50. If you required the assessment to take place at your home address, there would be an additional mileage cost for this depending on the distance from our closest clinic.  In regards to hydrotherapy, our prices for this range between £165.00 to £195.00 depending on pool availability."

Wow just Wow lol.  We pay the hospital £10 a month for the 1 session and sadly we cant do more than one session a week there.  The grotty hydro pool near me charges £4.20 per session.  These are the prices we expect to pay.  The other prices are beyond a joke lol.

I keep trying to find a swimming pool in the Trafford Area. I have tried with my husband at our local pool to see if i could cope getting in the pool plus what i could do in relation to trying to swim mainly with my right arm.  Was not too bad on my back but really need help on my front.  The pool closed for refurnishment, has now reopened.  Rang them to see if they could help, they say they have disabled facilities with regards to getting changed plus a hoist(if needed to get in/out of the water) but i feel i could do with some professional help coaching me.  Not had much luck so far but the weather is not great at the moment so i will keep trying to see what's out there until the weather gets warmer.  Would be glad of any information in that direction.

A normal swimming pool isnt really the same.  A hydrotherapy pool is a lot warmer so it relaxes your muscles to be able to do the exercises given a lot easier than out of the pool.
