I have had a cough for 5 years - caused by nasal drip - I have been prescrobed Fluticasone furoate  but this has no effect - I saw a specialist 3 years ago who told me that he was stumped
It wakes me (and my wife) up every night
What more can be done ?

I like your new profile picture @wibbles :) Very spooky!

We're not medical professionals, so can't give medical advice, but I hope another member who's been able to find a solution to this will find and respond to your post soon. It sounds really unpleasant.

Try sleeping on a wedge pillow.  It worked for me.

I have an electric adjustable bed so that does the same thing and makes no difference

Have you been tested for gastric reflux?  That can cause a persistent cough, especially at night.

If you have been diagnosed with nasal drip, @Wibbles and as you have been interested in trying alternative meds there is a salt pipe that you can buy at the health shops, hope i'm not going to be told of for this, go and have a chat with one of the in the know people in the shop, may be worth a go x

Hello @SueHeath is a salt pipe something which you have experience using?

As you might know, we can't allow medical advice on the forum. You are welcome to share your experience of any medicine's or treatments which have worked for you, as long as it's clear that this is based on your own individual experience :)

As always, with any new medication or treatment, it's imperative to consult with your GP about which options will be best for you.

I'm sorry to hear that your cough is causing you trouble @Wibbles have you spoken to a medical professional about it since you saw that specialist 3 years ago? It might be worth having a chat about some of the things mentioned by our members, and seeing what advice your doctor can give.

Could be a number of things from allergies to Silent  reflux I had the same sort of symptoms as you back in 2016 I was diagnosed by a ent consultant  with allergic  rhinitis for that I take fluticasone furate fexofenadine and sterimar also have MCS multi chemical sensitivity I would advise  that you go and speak with your doctor as it could be a number of things

I went to ENT (in December 2019) and had an implement stuck right up my nostril (into my brain ?) and they found nothing - I have had chest xrays of my lungs and they found no reason for my  on-going cough !
It keeps me awake at night as well as my wife !
Thought that it could be due to our cat but he died last month with no change in my cough
I currently use Avamys (Fluticasone furoate) but that doesn't appear to have any effect
I have tried SEA WATER sprays - again -no effect

Is your cough productive or non productive ?
Fairly non productive - ie dry - but occasionally it does produce phlegm

I would make an appointment with your  doctor but before  your appointment I would write a list of other symptoms and if it effects you  only of a night or during the day as well and also if anything makes it worse sorry I could not help as it could be a number of things causing it.

Avamy's is not an inhaler it is a nasal spray

But it does the same thing - ie corticosteroid
I don't think that it is  linked to Asthma anyway
Not that I have ever had Ashma

Found this on your diagnosed  condition, there maybe something you haven't tried yet, which may help https://www.verywellhealth.com/post-nasal-drip-symptoms-causes-and-treatment-5323634

Some other natural remedies you may wish to consider https://www.verywellhealth.com/post-nasal-drip-remedies-89304

I have read that some  Blood pressure meds  can cause this condition,  there maybe other types of medication that causes it too,  if you regularly take  meds  if maybe worth checking  that avenue out as it may just need a simple change in meds

Thanks - I have long thought that it was caused by Tamsulosin or Atenelol - both of which I have been taking on prescription for some years !
My Consultant denies that Tamsulosin can cause this - but the facts say different
