Hi , does anyone homeschooling secondary school child temporarily ( or permanent) and could guide me a bit ? I am in process of in year application for school transfer but my son had last week nerve break down ( too many detention, very strict school, children at school 10 h max per day) and I was briefly homeschooling him last week and he was crying in the evening and having panic attack that he cannot go there tomorrow as they want him resit detention from last week, when de facto he was in depression. In the meantime waiting for in year application I don’t want send him to this school anymore as he is in emotional pain. So I want home school until we succeed in transfer. I know I have to inform school and speak to learning trust in my borough. What else should I know or should I do ?

Hello @iza
I'm so sorry your son is going through so much, especially when these childhood years are supposed to be about discovering himself. I don't know much about the process, but I wanted to ask if your school has a fine system for attendance. It is something that my cousin had with her daughter's school if they have too many or any unauthorised absences. She suffered with anxiety and going back to school after lockdown, and they used it as a way to try and get her to attend.0 -
Hi @Hannah_Scope, my son didn’t have much absence till last week. He was at home 3 days last week and one yesterday I informed school that due to the situation I will be temporarily home schooling until I hear about the outcome for in year application. That was in the morning but in the evening I got a letter that we didn’t get space as school as I applied for school which at present time doesn’t have at present time space and we are on a waiting list. Like always I have right to apple within 21 day to say why I want my son in these school. But I must inform what alternative ways of school I will chose. So I need to know what apart homeschooling and flexi school options are available yet?0

Hi @iza That's good, that there are no absence fines.
I'm so sorry that you have to appeal the decision. I did some more research into this and came across the government website for types of schools, just incase there is another here suited in your area you may be able to apply for. I also found information from them about home schooling.
Young Minds are a fantastic charity to support children and their parents or guardians with mental health and school attendance. They have a helpline and webchat if you have further questions that the government website may not have been able to answer for you.
How is your son feeling at the moment? How are you? Have you got support too?1 -
Hi @Hannah_Scope, thank you very much for all information.0
