edited December 2022 in PIP, DLA, and AA
I'm  completing a PIP application for my brother who has anxiety, depression and possible ASD (also asthma and possible COPD)
Since Dec 2021 he does not leave his home unless absolutely  necessary,he does not want to meet new people or friends and family. I am his support since he confided in me beg Aug 2022.
He will walk to the local shop for milk/few groceries (before 8am and after 8pm)but I get the majority of his needs. Since August he has had many appointments at job centre, doctors, counselling, citizens advice and I have arranged these, accompanied him and driven him there.  He dreads these appointments.  He does not drive.
He did attempt a trial journey to the jobcentre by himself walking to bus stop 150metres and 2 mile max bus journey, he waited near the bus queue but as the bus approached could not get on. Other than that he doesn't go any where, he will not go to a supermarket with me for instance. Familiar & unfamiliar journeys both difficult.
I'm not sure which descriptor applies. Can anyone help please?

Q13 relates to following and planning a journey. If he's unable to go the majority of the time due to overwhelming psychological distress (OPD) then activity 1E will apply and would be 10 points, standard mobility.
A claimant who satisfies 1E cannot also satisfy 1F. If they cannot undertake a single journey on the majority of days due to overwhelming psychological distress, then 1E will be the applicable descriptor, even if there are occasions when they could follow a familiar route, if accompanied.

    Hello @Woo171

Thank you for telling us about your brother. I'm sorry he's experiencing some difficulties right now and it sounds like you are being a massive support for him. Is he getting support with the conditions you describe from a GP or other healthcare practitioner?

Also, I'd recommend speaking with a welfare representative who will be able to go into more detail about his personal circumstances and advise you in more depth. You can find someone close to where you live by visiting the Advice Local website, selecting 'welfare benefits' from the drop down box, entering your postcode and visiting the next screen.

Just to make you aware, I've moved your thread to our PIP, DLA and AA category to make it more visible to those in similar circumstances.

Best wishes and please let us know how you get on.

Hi @Puja, I just wanted to say it was very stressful applying for PIP especially on the back of completing UC50 for my brother (with minimal help from him because of his anxiety/depression) But.....I do agree with you that I think I did do a better job doing it in my own time, my own thoughts, getting info from my brother at times when his head was in a 'better' place rather than seeking help from elsewhere
He has been accepted for PIP enhanced daily living and mobility (18 months)  Still await a decision re WCA.
Good luck to anyone else doing the same.
