DWP £785 PAYMENT.

Hi - I just wondered if anyone else had seen anything about this £785 payment from the DWP? It popped up on my online newsfeed this evening, says it will be paid to people on certain benefits (UC,ESA,JSA,pension credits) and to people on a low household income or with a disability. Says it will be automatically paid in to your account associated with your benefit payments from the 17th April - end of May this year. This is the first I've heard of this! I've looked online to see if it's legitimate, and the only things I can find suggest that it is. But just seems strange that I've heard absolutely nothing about it until now. Anyone out there know anything about this?

Ah right. Thought it was too good to be true!

It is legit, sort of. The £785 is what those on certain benefits will have extra over the next 12 months due to the benefit rises this month. So it's not a one off payment, just what people could get with the increases.

Here is official DWP press release. 6th April 2025
You can then see how the media spin it to £785 payments, to further demonise welfare recipients.
