Hi @welbeck and a warm welcome to the community😀

What strategies have you or your son tried so far?

Ear Defenders can be really helpful for reducing the amount of noise that he may hear. You can also get noise cancelling earplugs that are more discreet but just as effective!

Yes, noise cancelling headphones are the answer here - they cut all noise out!

Sorry for the late reply. I have bought her noise-cancelling headphones and eye plugs, but it didn't work. She is seeing a therapist next week. Hope it helps as I think it was triggered by stress and anxiety. Thank you all

Some medications too cause noise sensitivity. I got it a few times in the past due to medication, and each time I was suicidal, as life daily life became unbearable.

I use soundcore ANC earbuds , as i can wear them anywhere and to sleep. Soundcore Liberty.

Playing white noise, pink noise, fan noise, rain noise, etc can be good at blocking certain sounds out. Could do it in combination with the ear defenders or ear plugs if they're not good enough to completely block out the noise. It's what I do myself to block out the banging sounds and dog barking that constantly comes from several of the neighbours around me, I'd go crazy otherwise.

Sorry to hear she's struggling @welbeck I agree noise cancelling headphones can be really helpful if you can find something that's really calming, which is very much trial and error.

But if your daughter is having a rough time, the sound help may be minimal, so hopefully the therapy will help. 😊

Hi welbeck, my ear plugs with noise-cancelling headphones on top don't give me the silence I want either. I did lots of research and thought I had found the perfect pair.

Soundcore is the brand I didn't pick so perhaps they are better than the Sony ones. I've not tried earbuds.

It's possible that I've misunderstood how effective headphones are for autistic people. They cancel external noise so that music can be played without interference rather than creating total silence. Except that I don't want to hear music, I want silence.
