Hi my child is autistic and has PTSD symptoms on going for almost 5 years she has been out of education and has now got an EHCP the content in the EHCP doesn't reflect her needs as written in reports the local authority are wanting a teacher to come to our home this would tramitise her as we still can't mention school words or anything related to formal learning we are now going to have to appeal and go to tribunal, all her reports say she needs a MDT team like a clinical psychologist before any learning can be done the local authority are fighting against us but we know our child can't do what they want her to do as it will cause great harm to mental health, any advice please

Hi @Kermit_12 and a warm welcome to the community😊

It sounds like a very difficult situation for both you and your daughter.

If you’re feeling like the local authority is pushing back unreasonably, it may be worthwhile either requesting a formal review of the situation or a joint meeting depending where you ae in the EHCP process so the LA know why the teachers coming into your home would be very harmful for your child.

When preparing for tribunal you need show that the EHCP content does not accurately reflect your daughter's needs. Make sure you have all reports and documents from Professionals that demonstrate that her mental health needs must be addressed first. It's also good emphasize how pushing formal learning too soon could cause your daughter harm and why you need to address mental health and trauma before education and use the reports to back this up.

If you haven’t already, SENDIASS are very worthwhile reaching out to. They give free, independent advice to families dealing with issues related to education. They can help you navigate the EHCP process, understand your rights, and provide information about appeals and tribunals.

Bluebell21 has linked to IPSEA above who are the legal experts in SEN education so it is definitely worth contacting them for some support and information especially if you are going to tribunal.

I hope this was helpful, please reach out if you would like more information or more support☺️
