I have received this letter.

I recently migrated from ir/cr esa to uc and ns-esa.

Why is this letter saying these things?

Why do I need an appointment?

Why do I need to explain my illness?

I thought everything was setup and I could now relax.

I can't see the letter but I can guess at the contents.

All you will need is a brief telephone appointment.

Please read through this thread (by clicking on the purple text View Post) for a full explanation and reassurance.

    Thank you very much.

    A few questions:

When and how will I be informed about when this telephone appointment will take place, and how long am I expected to wait?

I know you imply that this telephone appointment is nothing to worry about. But I don't think you realise just how anxious and stressed I feel about these things.

Is there anyway I can avoid this call, or can I nominate my mum to take the call on my behalf?

FYI the letter I received today or yesterday and is dated 14 April.

An appointment should be added to your UC Journal. No one here can answer any more specifically.

It is something you have to do.

You are free at the beginning to ask if your Mum can take the call instead, repeating what you are being asked and relaying your answers.

All you'll need to do is agree to keeping them updated with any changes, same as UC.

As they are separate benefits commitments are agreed separately.

I thought esa and uc are totally separate, so how can appointment be on my uc journal?

Can I add a journal entry to ask if mum can take call and agree to commitments for me?

When will I usually get an appointment?

UC and ESA are run separately, when you get both it's known as a dual claim - that's my best guess as to why the ESA appointment comes through the UC Journal (that's never made much sense to me).

You would be better asking ESA directly on 0800 169 0310 as I don't think UC will be able to help.

I have no way of knowing when you will get an appointment.

I received the same letter circa 2 months ago. I still haven't received any further correspondence from ESA about a claimant commitment. They are continuing to pay me every two weeks (I get UC once a month). I informed UC via my journal that I was on CB ESA (now known as new style ESA) and they made the necessary corrections to my payments. I'd advise you to inform them via your journal that you also receive CB ESA (new style ESA). Once they're aware of this, it will prevent them paying you too much in the future. If they pay you too much initially, you will owe them money. If you owe them money, you can pay them back the full amount all at once, or you can let them take up to 25% off your UC monthly until they receive back what they're owed.
